Request for Feedback: Potential ALAC Statement on Request for Inputs on Topics on Transfer Policy Review PDP Charter
Hello CPWG members, Ahead of the CPWG meeting tomorrow<https://community.icann.org/x/eAAuCg>, the ALAC representatives to the Transfer Policy Review PDP wished to share the optional ALAC statement on the request for inputs on topics of the Transfer Policy Review PDP charter. Please see the draft statement on p.2 of the Google Doc, also copied below: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xIEPkUXmtoHU-WzfqvR7Lv8o56kvKDHXf0tTobE5... Thank you, Evin Ashley Erdoğdu Policy Analyst Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) ALAC Statement on Request for Inputs on Topics on Transfer Policy Review PDP Charter The ALAC/At-Large community welcomes the opportunity to take part in the Transfer Policy Review PDP. In this PDP WG, the At-Large end user community will emphasize the Registrant perspective, and advocate processes and policies that make an Inter-Registrar Transfer and a Change of Registrant safe and secure. In this phase of the work, the At-Large community believes that the questions addressed in the charter are conclusive for the PDP WG to set an updated Inter-Registrar Transfer and Change of Registrant Policy. However, At-Large sees the need to take the different business models of the Registrars into account in the policies. Hence, the charter questions must include a Registrar's obligations to their resellers. Further, At-Large will advocate obligations to the Registrars to inform the Registrant about the transfer processes in an understandable way. These obligations concern Registrars and resellers. Finally, At-Large will emphasize the security connected to the Transfer Authorization Code (TAC) and management of the TAC. This includes, but is not limited to the processes and requirements for the Registrars to give Registrant access to the TAC, and distribute this in a secure and safe way.
I had a word suggestion to the ALAC statement. Is it possible to add the word "simple" or some other similar word before safe and secure? The reason being many times the transfer process is not very easy for registrants. Apart from the process being safe and secure, the transfer process needs to be simple and easy, where the registrant can get requisite support from the Registrar. I strongly concur. These processes and procedures need to be user-friendly. And simple is a big step in that direction.
