All: In preparation for Singapore, the Cross Community Working Group to Develop an IANA Stewardship Proposal on Naming Related Functions (CWG) has released the attached Discussion Document. This document outlines our work to date and sets forth the proposals that are currently under consideration by the CWG. You will see that there are 4 proposals currently under consideration: the draft proposal circulated by the CWG for public comment in December, a proposal with a Trust outside of ICANN holding IANA operation rights, a proposal with ICANN holding IANA operation rights in trust, and a proposal where ICANN's bylaws have been sufficiently amended to provide necessary accountability measures to the community. The CWG has also revised its timeline. The CWG has been moving at a rapid pace, with an "intensive work weekend" on January 10-11, with 8 hours of conference calls spread over two days (with prep & debrief in between), and almost daily meetings of the CWG or its subgroups. Nonetheless, the CWG has not yet completed its work, so there was no final report to send to SOs/ACs for approval in mid-January , and therefore no final report to send to the ICG at the end of January (the original timeline set at the beginning of the CWG's work). The revised timeline is also attached. If you have any questions, comments or feedback regarding this email, the attachments, the proposals or the CWG generally, please don't hesitate to contact me. I also encourage you to attend (remotely or in person) the CWG's working session on Wednesday and its Q&A on Thursday. There is also an ICANN-run information session on both the CWG and the CCWG-Accountability on Sunday. Hi Greg – many thanks. What is the word (in a nutshell) on hiring of independent counsel to provide legal assessment of these alternatives? We have about 5-6 firms that are presenting their qualifications to us. We've asked them to send us a short intro to themselves, their team, the firm and their capabilities to arrive by email ideally before the weekend. I think we're on target to have a firm engaged by month end. Greg On Thursday, February 5, 2015, Aikman-Scalese, Anne <AAikman@lrrlaw.com> wrote:
