Thank you Mirjana for this interesting information. Does it mean that the 2 letter code for Serbia is not being used as a ccTLD? This would dilute a little bit the line between 2 and 3 letter codes in our present discussion.

Dear all,
I want to give some clarifications about the role of ISO 3166-1 and registration of IDN ccTLD.
ISO 3166-1 is used primarily for registration of ASCII TLD.
The codes for countries from this table could be used in registering IDN ccTLD but it has to be the choice of the internet community form corresponding country according to the Fast track process for registering IDN ccTLD.
For example Serbian internet community had chosen the string ˇ°§ă§â§Ňˇ± in Cyrillic script which is the same as ˇ°srbˇ± in Latin. This string is also ISO 3166-1 alpha 3 code for Serbia.
If someone is interested in procedure that is fulfilled in ˇ°srbˇ± case , I can provide additional information
Best regards
Mirjana Tasic
