Re: [Ctn-crosscom] UPDATED questionnaire 3-letter codes
Dear Lars and all, Thank you for sending out the updated version of the questionnaire, Lars. I hereby enclose my initial comments and encourage everybody to do the same and to inform you respective SO/AC to initiate a discussion on this difficult issue. Kind regards, Annebeth Annebeth B. If you have already comleted the old version, you can simply copy and past your answers into this new questionnaire. They are the same questions only with one addition, question number 3: 'Three-character strings eligible for use as gTLD if not in conflict with ISO 3166 unless accompanies by documentation of support or non-objection from the relevant government or public authorities'. I apologise for the confusion - for your convenience I have added the text from the original email below. Deadline and all other information remains as was. Very best wishes, Lars - Dear all, As agreed, here is the questionnaire for 3-letter codes. Please remember that this is meant as a feedback gathering exercise. We are looking to get as much input from you and your respective SO/ACs or SG/Cs as possible to inform our debate on this important - and tricky - issue. The deadline for feedback is set for 3 September, feel free to submit any feedback to the list before that date as it will provide input for our next call(s). If you have any additional questions/comments, please reach out to either Bart or myself and/or raise them on the list. Many thanks and very best wishes, Lars
Dear Annebeth and all, One area of confusion, which I don’t see in the list is the vehicle license plates. Some countries chose to use three letter identifiers, for example Finland with FIN (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Finland <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Finland>), Serbia with SRB (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Serbia <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Serbia>) etc. It is very much possible, given the current situation “anyone can have any TLD” a country like Finland, or Serbia (just to follow my own examples above) decides that they want to have ‘unified’ representation in the world and thus demands .fin and .srb as ccTLDs respectively. In fact, Serbia already did so for their IDN ccTLD. Just some food for though… Best Regards, Daniel Kalchev Register.BG

Hello Everybody, I think we might already have some degree of confusion due to some 3letter IDNs being already delegated, like ".рус" .xn--p1acf or ".укр" .xn--j1amh or .ibm so I am afraid that it is bit late to block all 3 letters (unlike 2 letter codes where historically no outside of ccTLD world use was allowed).
