Another step closer....
Here's my understanding of the current situation. The Continuing Resolution (funding the US government) was approved by the US Senate without language defunding the "relinquishment" of IANA. House still needs to pass the CR, but these are generally worked out between the houses beforehand, so any surprises are relatively unlikely, subject to some last-minute posturing. Greg
Also, it appears that the Senate is going home tonight, so it will be difficult for the House to reinsert the rider J. Looks like House will be in session this evening -- this is expected to come up around 1 am Eastern time, 05:00 UTC -- now a prime ICANN meeting time :-( On Wed, Sep 28, 2016 at 5:55 PM, Gomes, Chuck <cgomes@verisign.com> wrote:

This was in Politico yesterday when it was reported that the first budget extension had failed: "Thirteen Republicans joined most Democrats in voting against the bill, including conservatives Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah, and South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham. Cruz led a failed fight to include language blocking the Obama administration from relinquishing oversight of the Internet domain system to an international body." Agree
From this side of the "pond" - it is clear that any (unwelcome) focus on IANA is VERY unlikely. (Yep two negative = a positive outcome...... mathematics)
Congratulations to all for the hard work. Best Paul Quoting Greg Shatan <gregshatanipc@gmail.com>:
