Dear Olivier, Thank you for this information. Dear Colleagues,
with the Kobe ICANN meeting behind us and only three months remaining in the current financial year, it is important to take stock of our current outreach funding:
1. CROP This financial year, we are only afforded three CROP slots, one of which needing to be at an ICANN meeting. CROP 1: Sandra Hoferichter to ICANN meeting in Barcelona CROP 2: Natalia Filina to Global IGF CROP 3: vacant
We need to make a decision fast. According to our list on https://community.icann.org/x/7QarBQ as well as our RALO Hot Topics Document which in its second part includes an updated list of proposed meetings to go to (
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vvZoMJL2AcG2bK5vp-bxi6gr3uE8OJULdtpA3WbL... ) the third CROP slot should be used for SEEDIG - Bucharest 7-8 May 2019. Are there any volunteers to represent EURALO there? Deadline for application: 6wk+5days before travel = 26th April 2019
Which means we have missed the deadline AGAIN. I wish we had given responsibility to this working group to keep track of that.
So instead, I propose that we use RALO discretionary Budget to send someone to SEEDIG *now*. We still have $1,989 in RALO discretionary funds for FY19. Deadline for applying for funding to SEEDIG: 3 weeks = 16 April 2019. Any volunteers to go to SEEDIG?
Use CROP for EURODIG (18-20 June) - and again whom should travel there? Deadline for application: 2 May 2019
Kindest regards,
Olivier

Technically yes - but this meeting was not mentioned in our Outreach Strategic plan and CROP does not cover meeting fees, thus we would need to ask for these to be waived again by RIPE (as we asked last year at the RIPE meeting in Marseille). Also this RIPE meeting does not appear to have ICANN sponsorship. https://ripe78.ripe.net/
travel to AprIGF (Vladivostok) - it is our region too and we may to be there and to be presented (with APRALO).
AprIGF is the Asia Pacific Regional IGF. I understand that APRALO is already well represented there. It is highly unlikely that any European actors, apart from Russia, will be represented there and we can rely on our APRALO counterparts to diligently send people to us from that country. Again AprIGF was not listed in our Outreach Strategic Plan. Kindest regards, Olivier
Dear Olivier, thank you very much for your time and clarification. We may to keep in mind that we probably need to put an expanded list of events in the strategic outreach plan in the future. Absolutely agreed. Financial Years run from 1st July to 30th June. Thus from next July we need a new list to be ready. The text in green below shows some starting points. Currently, we have for FY19: (copied from our plan) * ICANN63 in Barcelona (20-25 October 2018): we have organised a three hour joint outreach event in the Non Commercial Stakeholders Group (NCSG) which included in depth discussion and debate about many of ICANN’s current policy topics. * Internet Governance Week Brussels(2018 edition was on : <https://ec.europa.eu/digital-single-market/en/blog/internet-governance-week-...> https://ec.europa.eu/digital-single-market/en/blogposts/internet-governance-... <https://ec.europa.eu/digital-single-market/en/blogposts/internet-governance-week-brussels-22-26-january-2018>We do not yet know the exact dates for the 2019 edition, but it is fair to say that this is likely to be equally as interesting and significant as the 2018 edition. At present, with decreasing CROP slots, it looks unlikely that we would have a CROP slot for this event. * Eastern European DNS Forum - https://www.eednsforum.org/en/ December 2018, Moscow, Russia. At present, with decreasing CROP slots, it looks unlikely that we would have a CROP slot for this event. * CDPD - Computers, Privacy and Data Protection - http://www.cpdpconferences.org/ Next year to take place in Brussels, 30 January 2019 – 1 February 2019. We need to check with our Regional VP if this would be an ICANN supported meeting that fits the criterion for CROP. However, At present, with decreasing CROP slots, it looks unlikely that we would have a CROP slot for this event. Update: We are co-organizing a panel on Feb. 1, together with GSE: “Ensuring domain name data is safe: the WHOIS experience of balancing cybersecurity and privacy needs in the era of GDPR and major evolution of privacy legislation around the world”. https://www.cpdpconferences.org/panels/friday-1-february-grid * EuroSSIG 2019 – http://www.eurossig.eu– EURALO has never asked CROP for this and is not planning to ask for CROP, as we are using this opportunity to perform outreach, funded from another source. Outreach at the Summer School has been very successful. In 2018 yet again we have managed to reach out to all 30 fellows, many of whom are joining EURALO now. * re:publica – 6-8 May 2019 https://re-publica.de/en/about-republica- EURALO might ask for CROP slots for this. Since the report from Matthias Hudobnik (CROP funded attendee for re:publica 2018) was so positively conclusive, we are in discussions with ICANN Regional VP for Outreach, to see if we would be able to do more than having just a CROP attendee. Possibilities are that we could have a booth at re:publica, or even host or speak at a session. Early preparation of EURALO Leadership & European Regional VP is needed. Outreach Activity Funding (see below) could be used for this rather than CROP. * EuroDIG 2019 – 18-20 June 2019 http://www.eurodig.org– EURALO is likely to ask for a limited number of CROP slots for this. EuroDIG 2019 will take place in The Hague, Netherlands. We have several ALSes in the region that are likely to attend even without funding as they are just a train ride away. We will consider limiting CROP slots to the same or less than FY18. (2 max, 1 preferred) * SEEDIG 2019 – http://www.seedig.net/, 7-8 May 2019, Bucharest – thus we could use CROP slots. We have not specially targeted SEEDIG in previous years and might, therefore, consider allocating 1 CROP slot to this. * RightsCon –https://www.rightscon.org/ in North Africa this year (Tunis, Tunisia), thus no possibility to send anyone, but we’ll monitor future RightsCon conferences that will take place in Europe. * FIC , Lille, 22-23. Jan., https://www.forum-fic.com/accueil.htm * CyCon, Tallinn Estonia - https://ccdcoe.org/cycon/content/cycon-2019-theme-silent-battle-cyber-space.... the context of security and fake news) * GLOBSEC Bratislava Forum, Bratislava Slovakia, 6-8 June, https://www.globsec.org/projects/globsec-2019/ * Cyberweek,Tel Aviv, Israel, 23-27 June, https://cyberweek.tau.ac.il/2019/ * 2nd Cybernorms Conferenceby the Hague Programme on Cybernorms - the event is focused on cybersecurity and in 2018 the MS approach was a welcome divergence from the expected course of debates. While the conference organizers offer scholarships to paper authors, we might consider ensuring ICANN/EURALO is represented at this venue. * Association of Internet Researchers Annual Conference (AoIR) - https://aoir.org/aoir2019/in 2019 to be held in Australia but definitely worth keeping an eye out for once it comes back to Europe. * The fourteenth Annual Meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) will take place in Berlin from 25 to 29 November 2019. * Russian IGF – 8 April, Moscow * APrIGF – 16-19 July, Vladivostok, Russia * Next financial year: o Ukrainian IGF – September, Kiev o TLDCON – September, Lithuania o Belarusian IGF – October, Minsk o UADOM – December, Ukraine
Dear Olivier, Thank you very much for this list and answer. I would like to put a few comments: - with the aim to reduce the use of slots, we may to use the local events for those of us who already present locally. My question: may we see as just attending or we supose the active participation and presentation of Euralo? - Events of our RIR. Unfortunately there is no information about the decigions archived during the meeting with RIRs in Kobe, but I am sure that mutual participation in events was discussed. - Do I understand correctly that we can still add meetings in our Strategy plan, participation in which we can be covered by CROP? (I put the terms between ‘’ as they remain quite abstract for me ;-) )
Cheers from Kuala Lumpur,

Dear all,
In my personal opinion RIPE meetings are a good place for outreach activities and there are solid connections to ICANN. I am saying this from my personal experience, since I was also a RIPE Fellow at the RIPE77 in Amsterdam.
Best,

Dear colleagues,
just to follow-up on RIPE - I attended the RIPE meeting in Marseille last year. The opportunity for outreach to invite more organisations in EURALO is limited - but perhaps you have some suggestions? Is there support for amending our Outreach Strategic plan to include the RIPE meeting in Reykjavik? This would need to be decided on sooner rather than later. Kindest regards,
Olivier

Dear Olivier, Thank you for this information. Just one question:
Can we use this slot to:
trip to RIPE in May (more important and useful for our purposes of interaction in the framework of MOU and RIR`s collaboration)
Kindest regards,
Olivier

Dear Olivier, In my point of view RIPE meetings must be include in the Outreach Strategic plan. Main reason: this is a great opportunity not just to attract new members to Euralo (as discussed earlier - individuals, which are more effective in terms of contribution) with deep technical expertise, but also to discuss the possibilities of working within our MOU: - joint training programs - possible establishment of an Advisory centre for end-users (in any form) - joint outreach events (mutual participation) or presentations at the meetings. I think we have a chance to start in Reykjavik. I am ready to participate in preparing process of short program/presentation for colleagues who will come to RIPE.
