Call for volunteers on Finance & Budget sub-committee
Dear RALO leaders, the last conference call of the ALAC Finance and Budget (F&B) sub-committee was poorly attended and I realise that one of the reasons for this poor attendance is the confusion of members of the sub-committee not knowing if they are still members. We wish to have a well distributed committee that reflects the interests of all regions, with a timetable that is even tighter than last year: all requests for funding need to be received by ICANN Finance by 20th January 2012, which means that we need to make sure that RALOs get their requests to us by 10th January. I therefore think that a good dialogue with regions is important and there is no better dialogue than having individuals leading the regions also involved in the ALAC F&B sub-committee. The current membership of the F&B sub-committee is shown on: https://community.icann.org/x/n4XT Please check with your region if you could recommend some of your members to join the sub-committee. We are especially looking for volunteers with a good knowledge of the process (from last year's experience) or a good knowledge in budgeting & finance processes, for our future interactions with ICANN Finance. Please send all suggestions to staff@atlarge.icann.org I have asked your ALAC representatives to help with the process of identifying more volunteers. It is vital that all regions are well represented since they will also act as a liaison between RALO leadership and the F&B sub-committee. Dear Olivier, I am sorry about the poor attendance of this last conf. call. As I have seen on the current membership list of the F&B sub-committee, there can be more than two participants from each region. Dear Olivier, Wolf, I'm very sorry I could not take part in the conference calls of EURALO and the F&B sub-committee due to urgencies related to the decision of the Flemish government. I was asked to advice the government in the process of the eventual launch of a GTLD ".vlaanderen" and as today it was the last day decisions could be taken by parliament for this year, I have been working (almost) day and night to provide all required information and advice in this process. Today, the Flemish parliament finally decided to give green light for the application, at least for the call for tender for candidates to run the registry. Positive outcome at least after so many hours of continuous reading, meeting, re-discussing the concept of a concession under which the Flemish government will delegate the license of the .vlaanderen registry. I'm happy the work, so far is done and I can go on Christmas holidays. Next step will be the evaluation process and the negotiation phase of the contract. Still hard time to come. This was the initial reason why I was not available for the last conference calls, which I could not foresee as i was called in urgency for deliberation of the final document. Even this morning very very early I had to provide complementary information so the politicians could take decision in full confidence of success. I will be available at next call and meanwhile for commenting on documents if needed, my hand on my hart.
