TODAY: ICANN Contracted Parties Set to Vote on RDAP Amendments

 

On 19 January 2023, contracted parties will begin voting on the proposed 2023 Global Amendments to the Base Generic Top-level Domain (gTLD) Registry Agreement (RA) and 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA). This voting period is an important and decisive step in our commitment [r20.rs6.net] to the Internet community to improve the WHOIS system by updating the underlying technology with the more secure and capable Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP).

TOMORROW: ICANN Restarts the Community Regional Outreach Program for FY23

 

ICANN organization is restarting the Community Regional Outreach Program (CROP). The Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) CROP space [r20.rs6.net] is now available for use by eligible community groups. FY23 CROP trips will be available starting Monday, 16 January 2023.

NEW: The Year in Review for ICANN's MEA Team and a Look Ahead

 

As we begin 2023, I would like to take the opportunity to reflect on the past year and all that we have accomplished, and to look forward to the coming year.

ICANN offices, including the regional office for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) in Istanbul, remained closed for the greater part of last year. The Istanbul office partially reopened toward the end of September and began working in full operation as of 9 January 2023. Remote working has been the primary mode of operation across the entire region, with some in-person engagement beginning to resume in the third and fourth quarters of 2022. However, in 2023, we anticipate remote engagement to recede as the demand for face-to-face engagement is already on the rise.

NEW: ICANN and Contracted Parties Negotiate About Improved DNS Abuse Requirements

 

The goal of this shared work is to define improvements to the existing obligations related to DNS abuse in the Registrar Accreditation Agreement and Registry Agreement. This effort is the fulfillment of a concept proposed by the Contracted Parties in a recent exchange of letters between the leadership of the Contracted Parties House and the ICANN organization (org).

NEW: ICANN’s Emergency Assistance Program Framework for Continued Internet Access

 

ICANN organization (org), as requested by the ICANN Board, has developed a new Emergency Assistance Program designed to support access to Internet infrastructure during emergency situations, such as natural or man-made disasters. This program is intended to be a part of ICANN's ongoing activities.

NEW: ICANN’s Annual IANA Customer Survey Shows Shift in Engagement Preferences

 

ICANN published the results of the 2022 Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) Functions Customer Engagement Survey [r20.rs6.net], which measures customers and external stakeholders' satisfaction with their interactions with the IANA team.

REMINDER: Call for SOs/ACs to Nominate Fellowship Program Mentors and Selection Committee Members

 

Supporting Organizations (SOs) and Advisory Committees (ACs) are invited to nominate volunteers to serve as mentors in its Fellowship Program and to serve on the Fellowship Program Selection Committee. There will be a total of seven mentors and seven Selection Committee members, and each group is welcome to nominate one individual for each role.

 

Interested SOs/ACs should select their respective Fellowship Program mentor and Selection Committee representative by Tuesday, 31 January 2023 and notify fellowshipconsultation@icann.org. Individual self-nominations will not be considered.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) posted the Draft FY24-28 Operating and Financial Plan, and Draft FY24 Operating Plan and Budget for public comment on December 14, 2022. See link [r20.rs6.net]. [r20.rs6.net] And this proceeding closes on 13 February 2023.

The Nominating Committee (NomCom) of ICANN is accepting applications for key leadership positions within ICANN's Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees, the ICANN Board of Directors, and the Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) Board of Directors.
