I agree with Erich’s and Roberto’s comments!

It is very important that we fill in this seat that’s why I fully understand SeB’s rational and his self-nomination. Nevertheless, it is the ultima ratio for me because it is from an organizational, optical, and diversity point of view detached from any personnel debate (I know that SeB is one of the most experienced leaders within ICANN) not ideal and might open the door for potential rumors, despite the fact of overlapping responsibilities/commitments!

 

Frankly, the fact that there is not a single candidate from our region willing to serve for this very important position is a bit sad…!

 

There might be only one alternative but not sure how successful this would be…what do you guys think of re-opening the application window for some more days?Maybe there will be at least one candidate or do you guys think it would not change the situation at all?

 

Just my two honest cents!

As there is (for the moment) not name

As it is important that we stay on track

As I have try in contacting some of you to have candidates with no luck

 

I have decided to self nominate myself

If selected both by Euralo and ALAC, I will do that in parallel of my duty of EURALO Chair.

 

I wait almost at the last minute hopping for nomination(s).

Maybe the last last minutes will give us name(s)?

On behalf of Maureen Hilyard, Chair of the ALAC,  we would like to announce a call for nominations is now open for the vacant position of the ALAC Delegate to the NomCom from the European Region. 

 Terms:

  • ALAC Delegate to the NomCom from the European Region:  Voting members of the NomCom are appointed for a one year term. The appointment for the ALAC Delegate to the NomCom from the European Region will start in December 2020 and end at the close of the 2021 AGM. The Delegate may be re-appointed for a further term of one year subject to the requirement under the ICANN Bylaws. Each RALO may make one or more recommendations for the consideration of the ALAC. The criteria for NomCom Delegates are shown at the end of this message.

 

Selection Schedule ALAC Delegate to the NomCom from the European Region:

  • 16 November 2020 - Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.
  • 16 November – 22 November 2020 at 23:59 UTC - Nomination period (nominations accepted for 5 working days/7 days total).
  • 25 November 2020, 23:59 UTC - Deadline for nomination acceptances
  • 26 November 2020 – 18:00 UTC Calls with the candidates.
  • 27 November - 1 December 2020, 23:59 UTC – Online Vote by EURALO Members.
  • Name (or Names) are sent to the ALAC Chair.
  • ALAC process to elect the NomCom Member from EURALO.
  • Newly elected NomCom Member from EURALO shall be seated on 7 December 2020.

 

Process for Nominations: 
All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate to At-Large staff.  All nominees must also complete or update their Statement of Interest (see: At-Large New SOIs Workspace).


Nominations, including self-nominations, must be made directly to the EURALO mailing list, as well as posted on the 2020 EURALO NomCom Delegate Selection - Vacant Position workspace, or by sending a note to At-Large staff. 
 

Criteria for NomCom Delegates:
The NomCom is responsible for selecting members of the ICANN Board, ALAC, ccNSO and GNSO. This is a very important function and all candidates should meet important criteria.

  • Familiarity with the ICANN groups to which the NomCom appoints (Board, ALAC, GNSO, ccNSO).
  • Ability to judge people (such as when interviewing and hiring).
  • Comfortable and preferably fluent with English (listening, reading, speaking).
  • Good on-line skills such as on Google & Social media.
  • Time Commitment - Must be willing to devote substantial time under tight deadlines (March-June). Will potentially involve travel to up to 4 meetings.
  • Ability work in a group environment, standing up for what you believe in a discussion with other "strong" people, but at the same time, must be a good listener and be willing to change your mind if someone else has a good argument. Diplomacy is important.

  • Délégué de l’ALAC au NomCom de la région Européenne: Les members votants du NomCom sont nommés pour un mandat d’un an. La nomination du délégué de l’ALAC au NomCom de la région européenne débutera en décembre 2020 et se terminera à la clôture de l’AGA 2021. Le délégué peut être reconduit pour un mandate supplémentaire d’un an sous réserve de l’exigence des statuts constitutifs de l’ICANN [icann.org]. Chaque RALO peut faire une ou plusieurs recommendations pour examen par l’ALAC. Les critères pour les délégués NomCom sont indiqués à la fin de ce message.

  • 27 novembre – 1er décembre 2020, 23 :59 UTC :      Vote en ligne des membres d’EURALO
  • Le nom (ou les noms) sont envoyés au président de l’ALAC.
  • Processus ALAC pour élire le membre du NomCom d’EURALO.
  • Le membre du ComCom nouvellement élu d’EURALO sera assis le 7 décembre 2020

 

Processus de nomination:

Tous les candidats doivent soumettre une déclaration brève au personnel At-Large [atlarge.icann.org] qui explique pourquoi ils pensent être un candidat approprié. Tous les candidats doivent également remplir ou mettre à jour leur déclaration d’intérêt (voir: Espace de travail des nouveaux SOI d’At-Large).

 

Les nominations, y compris les auto-nominations, doivent être faites directement sur la liste de diffusion EURALO, ainsi que publiées sur l’espace de travail ‘Sélection des délégués EURALO NomCom 2020 – Poste vacant’, ou en envoyant une note au personnel d’At-Large.

 

Critères pour les délégués du NomCom:

  • Engagement au niveau du temps. Doit être dispose à consacrer beaucoup de temps dans des délais serrés (mars à juin). Cela impliquera de voyager jusqu’à 4 réunions.
  • Capacité de travailler dans un environnement de groupe, défendre ce que vous croyez dans une discussion avec d’autres personnes “fortes” mais en même temps, doit être un bon auditeur et être prêt à changer d’avis si quelqu’un d’autre à un bon argument. La diplomatie est importante.
