In case this issue pops up during the call, do we have Jordi or other person that has thorough knowledge of the matter on the call?
It is quite late in the game but if we really think this will be on the agenda (although in my opinion it is rather orthogonal to domain names issues) we should have a fully informed person participating. The first one that comes to my mind is AAA (in copy).
Cheers,
R

Dear Mathieu,

thanks for your apologies for this call, which will be recorded.
On the topic of .CAT - indeed when .CAT was proposed, part of the process was to ask the Spanish Government whether they had any objection and they did not.

When it comes down to the recent events, you might have seen the Internet Society releasing a Statement about the situation and this landed them in trouble as the Spanish Chapters appear not to have been consulted.
ICANN-wise, ICANN's remit excludes any judgement on content and is therefore focussed purely on the domain names and IP addresses. To my knowledge, there hasn't been any effect on .CAT itself, nor any range of IP address, thus as far as ICANN's remit is concerned, it's business as usual.

Kindest regards,

Olivier

Dear Olivier,

I am sorry, I apologize, I will not be able to attend the next EURALO meeting due to professional commitments.

I have a question: what are our various points of view on the .cat issue related to the independence referendum of Catalonia?

I understand that ICANN asked to spanish government when the .cat has been created and there was no opposition (nor explicit approval). But it seems that the events of the last weeks revealed fears on the decrease of the freedom of speech and individual freedoms on the Internet.

Best regards,
