Dear EURALO colleagues, dear Maciek,

I’m very glad to see your nomination. We need people who are genuinely passionate about advocating for end-user interests, and your engagement clearly reflects that. Given your background and expertise, you are a strong candidate for the role.

I fully endorse this nomination.

PS: I’m always happy to support with any shadowing and orientation from my side

All the best,

Naty

Dear EURALO Friends,

I hope this is not rude of me to self-nominate!

EURALO has been a very welcoming place for me and I would love to give back. I am currently a double ICANN Fellow and have been increasingly involved since ICANN83, when I first participated remotely. I have become immediately interested in DNS Abuse, and later decided to know more about Accuracy and RDAP, among other topics.

I am active in ALAC’s CPWG, where I acted as a reviewer and penholder, as well as bolunteered to use my editorial experience in making sure clear language is used. I also observe the DNS Abuse WG. I am proud to have been quoted publicly by the ICANN Board, and my public comment was cited by the NCSG. I recently made an application to join the BC, which I was assured is not in conflict with ALAC’s work.

Given my background, I mostly represent self-employed users and those running microbusinesses, especially in creative, media, legal and medical industries, as well as civil society volunteers. Those groups constitute most of my clients for digital security consultancy. I also have a disability, which makes me additionally aware that users with certain disabilities are under increased risk when it comes to DNS Abuse and other ICANN-relevant cybercrime, such as identity theft.

Outside ICANN I am active in the ISC2 and RightsCon communities, as well as the EC’s special group on NIS2. I’m an alumnus of the ICANN Development Accelerator, Internews Journalist Security Fellowship and DFRLab’s Digital Sherlocks programmes, as well summer schools at the College of Europe and Łódź CyberHub (run by ALAC’s Joanna Kulesza!).

I’d love to get more involved with the outreach and newcomer engagement goals stated in EURALO’s strategy - I am currently working on the Buddy model, which I intend to share with you in the next few days to consult. Looking for common agendas for end users and other stakeholders is something I’m very keen on as well.

I know I have many things still to learn, but I am sure that Emilia and Nati would allow me to job shadow them for a bit, if you decide to choose me!

All the best to all of you,

Maciek Piasecki
