NomCom - deadline for applications 22 March 2019
Dear all, some update about the NomCom’s work by a recent blog of Pablo Rodriguez. Questions are very welcome! Erich Schweighofer, NomCom (ALAC-EU) The 2019 Nominating Committee’s (NomCom’s) initiatives to fill 10 open leadership positions continue in earnest (visit: https://www.icann.org/nomcom2019 for more information). Three NomCom sub-committees (Job Description, Character, and Qualities (JDCQ); Application Form; and Outreach) have completed a guide outlining the job description and desired candidate traits, and updated the application form. These sub-committees are also continuing their efforts to identify a highly motivated and talented pool of diverse individuals. The JDCQ sub-committee sought feedback from ICANN Board members in order to draft an accurate job description and to identify traits that candidates should possess to perform effectively as a member of the Board. The JDCQ sub-committee members integrated the feedback received with information from their own work and discussions. The JDCQ sub-committee sought feedback from ICANN Board members in order to draft an accurate job description and to identify traits that candidates should possess to perform effectively as a member of the Board. The JDCQ sub-committee members integrated the feedback received with information from their own work and discussions. The approved job description and list of traits are available to potential candidates here: https://www.icann.org/nomcom2019. The Application Form sub-committee revised the application form based on feedback from 2018 NomCom applicants. The three most common concerns were multiple requests for the same information when applying for multiple positions, form length, and clear instructions. Another equally important concern involved some applicants’ perception that the form was biased against ICANN outsiders. In response, the Application Form sub-committee streamlined and shortened the form to avoid duplication of information required by applicants seeking multiple positions and made revisions to address bias concerns. In addition to seeking information about applicants’ ICANN engagement, the revised form seeks information about applicants’ broader Internet development and governance experience. It also includes four separate questions about the applicant’s executive management background and experience as a board or trustee member. We are excited that ICANN support staff introduced a new and more user-friendly online application platform<https://webportalapp.com/sp/login/icann-nomcom-submission-portal> where applicants no longer must perform a two-step process to complete their application and can now simply create an account, complete the form, upload new data, and save at their own pace. The Outreach sub-committee continues its work to identify highly-motivated talented individuals willing to serve in the 10 open leadership positions and to elicit an array of applicants who reflect ICANN’s diverse community of individuals from all regions of the world. Outreach sub-committee members sought information from current and former Board members for input and ideas regarding outreach. This sub-committee employs a two-fold approach that involves the participation of its members to spread the message in their respective communities and through external channels such as academic institutions, chambers of commerce, and executive associations. Outreach efforts will continue until the close of the application period. The NomCom will continue its work to streamline these processes for applicants and reminds ICANNcommunity members and their contacts to submit completed applications before 22 March 2019 at 23:59 (UTC). ao. Dear Erich, thank you very much for this. I note that this year, the NomCom is looking for: * Three members of the ICANN Board of Directors. * One member of the PTI Board of Directors. * Three regional representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) – one from the Asia, Australia, and Pacific Islands region, one from the Latin America and Caribbean Islands region, one from the Africa region. * Two members of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council. * One member of the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) Council. You will note that this year, no ALAC representative comes up for renewal in the European region. But all of the other positions outlined above are open for applicants from our region. One of the duties of NomCom members is to act as a "head-hunter" looking for the best candidates that they might know both personally, but also in their region's footprint. For this, NomCom members need your help: if you know of any potentially suitable candidate, please get in touch with them and suggest that they apply. Having a larger pool of candidates helps with skill diversity - and I remind you that the NomCom is in charge of balancing the committees to which they appoint people, whether it is to resolve a geographical imbalance, a gender imbalance or indeed a skill-set imbalance. Kindest regards, Olivier On 11/03/2019 13:04, Schweighofer Erich wrote:
