Dear colleagues, following the email I sent to the EURALO mailing list, I received several emails regarding what the next steps were. If there is a single candidate for a position, should they be selected by acclamation? Or should there be a consensus call first? I have weighted the options based on past selections. (like "none of the above") As a result, and I think that this might be slightly different from the past, I propose a consensus call on the candidates: - Olivier MJ Crépin-Leblond to be renewed as EURALO Chair for another 2 year term - Sébastien Bachollet to be renewed as ALAC member for another 2 year term. - Sandra Hoferichter to be recommended to ALAC for selection to serve another year on NomCom If you *object* to this selection (which would be by acclamation), and therefore desire that a formal vote be taken on each of the candidates, which includes a "none of the above" option, please email staff@atlarge.icann.org If no objections are received by Monday 29 May 2017, I will take it that there is consensus for the candidates to be confirmed as listed *by acclamation". Dear Michele, thanks for your follow-up. An election would give a voice to those who do not like the candidate to express their disapproval. Whilst I do not expect that any of the candidates would lose a vote to "none of the above", I respect and support the opinion by some who wish to keep this option open. following the email I sent to the EURALO mailing list, I received several emails regarding what the next steps were. If there is a single candidate for a position, should they be selected by acclamation? Or should there be a consensus call first? I have weighted the options based on past selections. We have had several of these selections this year, to the point that I think the whole process of selection is becoming tedious for many people. But I have noted that there were strong voices that members should have the ability to voice their concern about any candidate - and even to register their objection if they wish to. (like "none of the above")
As a result, and I think that this might be slightly different from the past, I propose a consensus call on the candidates:
- Olivier MJ Crépin-Leblond to be renewed as EURALO Chair for another 2 year term - Sébastien Bachollet to be renewed as ALAC member for another 2 year term. - Sandra Hoferichter to be recommended to ALAC for selection to serve another year on NomCom
If you *object* to this selection (which would be by acclamation), and therefore desire that a formal vote be taken on each of the candidates, which includes a "none of the above" option, please email staff@atlarge.icann.org <mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org>
If no objections are received by Monday 29 May 2017, I will take it that there is consensus for the candidates to be confirmed as listed *by acclamation". In the meantime, if you agree with the above, no need to email the mailing list, in an effort to keep traffic low regarding this topic. I completely agree with your decision Olivier. I think there is an element of « election fatigue ». I also think many people who might stand lack the required information about who is eligible to stand and what the positions entail in terms of responsibilities and time commitment. So the fact that this positions have not yielded more than one applicant doesn’t mean that applicant shouldn’t be given an opportunity to convince the community to vote for them. On behalf of Alan Greenberg, Chair of the ALAC, the 2017 call for nominations for available ALAC Members, RALO Leaders and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom is now open.
Positions Open:
Please refer to the 2017 ALAC and RALO Elections, Selections and Appointments[community.icann.org] <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__community.icann.org_dis...> for a comprehensive list of all available positions and whether current holders of the positions are eligible for re-selection.
Terms:
· ALAC: Terms for the ALAC will run from the end of the 2017 AGM to the end of the 2019 AGM.
· RALO Leadership: Terms for the RALO Leadership will be as noted on the individual RALO election pages. All terms will start at the end of the 2017 AGM.
· ALAC Delegates to the NomCom: Voting members of the NomCom are appointed for a one year term, starting at the close of the 2017 AGM and ending at the close of the 2018 AGM and may be re-appointed for a further term of one year subject to the requirement under the ICANN Bylaws[icann.org] <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.icann.org_resources...>.
Selection Scheduled for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom: 1 May 2017 - Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.* 1 May – 12 May 2017 - Nomination period (nominations accepted for 10 working days). 19 May 2017 - Deadline for nomination acceptances 22 May - 26 May 2017 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline). 2017 AGM [ ICANN 60 ] - Newly elected representatives shall be seated at the ALAC Wrap Up Session during the 2017 AGM .
