Dear all, By now all the persons who have applied for participation in person should have received the approval - please let me know if this is not the case. Online participation is still work in progress, as priority has been given to participation in presence because of the time needed to obtain visas, book tickets, etc. However, all online participation applications will be confirmed, pending due diligence to eliminate e.g. frivolous applications. The consultation - see https://netmundial.br/consultation - is still open, the deadline has been extended to Wednesday, 10th April. Please provide your comments even if you do not plan to attend NETmundial, as this will be an opportunity to make the voice of the users heard. Best regards, Roberto
Hi Roberto Amazing work you and your team are doing indeed, just checking if there has been issues of travel support discussed for those accepted to participate physically but cannot self sponsor? Hi Bram Unfortunately the NETmundial Secretariat does not have the resources to provide funding. I understand that this is a serious issue, in particular for civil society, but this is the current situation. Roberto, let's everybody keep an eye open, lest a highly selective but not very transparent pocket be found by the organizers. The premise that every participant should be able to fund their travel, and spend according to the level of interest and stake held in the meeting, breaks down very fast, which can easily be checked against the data of how many travel only domestically. A shame, because they did have a small travel pool 10 years ago. It funded myself, Glenn and some other At-Largers, administered directly by Meire Meloof of the Secretariat. I recall its processes being much more frugal than ICANN's -- my itinerary had three stops between Toronto and São Paulo and the hotel they allowed was some distance from the venue -- but I got there. I think it's very important to have at least some kind of funding pool for people that can't get sent by their companies, governments or universities. I hope they can find something for those who can really contribute on behalf of Internet consumers.
