Friday, 05 June, 2009 TO: E-Seniors FROM: ICANN At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) SUBJECT: At-Large Structure Certification ICANN's At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) is pleased to inform you that E-Seniors has been certified as an At-Large Structure (ALS). The ALAC greatly appreciates your group's interest in involving individual users in ICANN and looks forward to working with you and your colleagues. The purpose of ALS certification is to recognize that your organization meets the necessary criteria to involve individual Internet users at the local or issue level in ICANN activities, and that your organization will support its individual members' informed participation in ICANN efforts that affect end-users. The ALAC is eager to promote a productive working relationship between your organization, other ALS, and the ALAC (and ICANN in general), and your input on how we can make this a success would be greatly appreciated. We would like to offer some initial tools to help your organization keep its members informed (about significant news from ICANN and information on ICANN policy-development efforts) and engaged in activities of interest: - Point of Contact for your Organisation: Please send an email to staff@atlarge.icann.org identifying the names and email addresses of one or two individuals who will be the point of contact for information and correspondence regarding ICANN At-Large. If this changes, please let us know. - At Large Mailing Lists. There are many At Large email lists, for each region; you can signup for them and manage your subscriptions at: http://atlarge-lists.icann.org/mailman/listinfo. The points of contact you identify will automatically be added to your region's list just for accredited ALSes to discuss regional issues and to the mailing list for Staff announcements; you are invited to join others as you wish. - ALS information. Information about your organization will be shared with the At-Large community to enable individuals interested in your group's activities to contact you, and to encourage cooperation with other groups interested in ICANN activities in your geographic region. Please complete and email the form at the bottom of this note to staff@atlarge.icann.org. - ALAC website. The ALAC website (www.atlarge.icann.org) is a good source for ICANN news and information of interest to individual Internet users. We encourage you to provide your members with a link. The ALAC relies on volunteers to translate information into multiple languages. Translations of documents on the website are welcome and should be sent to staff@atlarge.icann.org. - At-Large Regional Websites. Regional webpages also have been created to distribute information (including in local languages) on activities, events and issues of particular interest to people in each region. I just want to announce that the next ICANN-Studienkreis meeting, organised again by our colleague Wolfgang Kleinwaechter, will be convened at 15-16 Oct. 09 in Barcelona. I hope we will have the opportunity to meet and discuss further issues in Barcelona together. Nice weekend and best regards, Wolf Miguel Perez Subias wrote Fri, 05 Jun 2009 20:03:

Thanks. Any chance to talk him into having the Open Institute joining the APRALO, maybe with the collaboration of Norbert Klein? The Open Institute seems to qualify, looking at the web site. And it would be a very good addition to ALAC to have some further expertise in implementation of IT in non-ASCII scripts. R.

Last I heard, I think through Norbert Klien, Jose was working in Cambodia. Adam
Miguel, I have been working with Javier, Amadeu, David Maher, etc. in 1997. Is Javier Solá is still active in the AUI? The last picture of him on your website dates from 2003. Cheers, Roberto

Dear Colleagues,
This email is to personally introduce myself to you all and give you some reviews abaut the Spanish Internet Users Association www.aui.es
The AUI was fouded in 1995 and is a landmark since its establishment in Spain or in the Latin American Community of Nations in all matters related to Internet. Our association is made up mostly of individuals (2870) and organizations (67) (government and business).
The AUI was very active in the creation of ICANN. In 1997 our director Javier Solá with Amadeu Abril, David Maher ... launched the MoU for setting up a new domain which has resulted in ICANN. Subsequently we have been spectators rather, with respect to ICANN.
Some of our most relevants initiatives:
- The launch NIX-NAP Spanish: http://www.espanix.net/
- Creation in 2005 of the World Day of the Internet on May 17. We are involved 18 Latin American countries (hopefully soon to be many Europeans) http://internetday.info
- We started the IGFSpain a very actif group in Spain: http://www.igfspain.com
- Our annual conference of the Internet now "just on-line": http://mundointernet.es/?lang=en
- The platform to eliminate digital levys (tax for electronics to pay creators), which has already collected more than three million signatures in Spain: http://todoscontraelcanon.es
Finally you have for my CV in http://aui.es/mps I hope I can contribute and learn everything about all of you.
welcome and thanks you for your time
