Nominations - update II
All, this is the current status of nominations. The people who did not accept or reject yet are kindly expected to do so as soon as possible. (Wolfgang - you wrote that both Veronica and Desiree accepted, but I find it hard to vote for someone who has never sent a single message to this mailing list - could you please encourage them to join the list and send a message of acceptance and self-introduction?) For the rest, I would follow Annette's suggestion and start the discussion on the two slates of candidates and on the number of Board members. In the revised schedule, voting was expected to start on April 29th but let's see how the discussion goes - if the discussion is still alive and productive, I'm also fine with waiting until May 5th for the vote. By the way - assuming that all nominations are accepted, we now have eight candidates for the Board. If we agreed that whoever is not elected for the ALAC is added to the Board, we could have a 9-member Board and the two ALAC members, not reject anyone's desire to contribute, and only have to vote (if necessary) once. What would you think of this? Regards, == Nominations for the ALAC Patrick Vande Walle (self-nomination) (accepted) Sebastien Bachollet (Dessi) (accepted) Veronica Cretu (Wolfgang) (?) The proposed procedure (with nine board EURALO members) is fine for me. I am leaving for the A2K and CFP conferences in NY and Montreal tomorrow and will be back on Friday, May 4. . I didn´t know that Verinice and Desiree did not send any message to the EURALO list.Prpobably they are not subscribed. I will send immediately them a message to reply. Hi, Herewith a fifth endorsement of Vittorio's suggested solution, the rationale for which seems pretty straightforward. Best, Bill On 4/25/07 3:51 PM, "Kleinwächter, Wolfgang" <wolfgang.kleinwaechter@medienkomm.uni-halle.de> wrote:

Dear all, by now I had the chance to speak with Karen Banks from APC (UK) and Wolf Ludwig from comunica.ch (Switzerland) who both are willing to serve on the EURALO board. I would like to nominate those two as I think they will be a real asset for our new organisation. Both are well known in the internet community, have a lot of knowledge on ICANN issues and are willing to work on getting individual users involved in ICANN's decision making processes. I add Karen's CV here. Wolf, you all know as he has been working from the very first meeting on the succesfull setting up of our EURALO. He will send in his CV soon. Below you will find the updated list of nominations. All the best Annette Karen Banks is a networking pioneer who has worked with ICTs and their application as a tool for social change since 1990. Between 1990 and 1997 she maintained an international gateway called 'GnFido' at GreenNet, a small non-profit ISP in London, and founding member of the Association For Progressive Communications. The gateway used simple 'store-and-forward' technology (fidonet and uucp) providing in many cases, the only means of cheap, efficient electronic communications to thousands of individuals, NGOs, Acadamics, Researchers and quasi-governmental departments in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe. In 1993, along with women colleagues from the Association For Progressive Communications (www.apc.org), she formed the APC Women's Networking Support Programme which led an all women team of 40 to the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995, where they provided email and web access to over 10,000 delegates. She coordinated the APC WNSP from 1996 to 2004. She coordinated APC's participation in the WSIS process and continues to coordinate APC's participation in post WSIS activities such as the Internet Governance Forum. She leads APC's work in the CRIS (Communication Rights in the Information Society) campaign and has recently taken up position as Network Development Manager for APC after coordinating APC's Women's Networking Support Programme for 8 years and coordinating APC's internet rights work globally, and in Europe from 1998-2001. She remains a Director of GreenNet and is currently a trustee of Privacy International, an international privacy rights and civil liberties watchdog based in the UK, member of the civil society working group on the Commonwealth Action Programme for the Digital Divide. Hi all, first of all, I would like to thank Annette for nominating me (and Karen as well) for the EURALO board. I hereby accept this nomination. For those of you who haven't crossed or met me before, here some biographical notes: Wolf Ludwig (52), studies in languages and economics, journalist by profession, previously specialised in development cooperation and on human rights. Various Working experiences (consultancies) in different European countries, Africa and Middle East. From 1997 I was working as project manager and head of department of the Swiss media union (comedia), primarily in charge of communication and electronic media. My involvement with information society issues started with WSIS in 2002. Founding member of Comunica-ch, the Swiss platform on the information society, I served as one of several representatives of the Swiss civil society in the governmental delegation during WSIS I, and as member of the media caucus. Comunica-ch continued its engagement during WSIS II. In 2005 I was elected as Co-president of our platform. In this period I organised several conferences on Internet related issues. Since summer 2006 I am working as online journalist, specialised on new media, public dom! ain and information society themes. I attended two preparatory meetings of EURALO in spring (Frankfurt) and autumn 06 (Berlin). My prior concerns are: freedom of expression, communication rights and civil /consumer rights in the information society. Ensuring broad participation if Internet users is a prerequisite of any people-centred information society. Working languages: German, English and French; in Switzerland we are particularily dedicated to cultural diversity. With my political and professional experience I would like to contribute to and to strengthen EURALOS future. Best regards, Wolf Annette Muehlberg wrote Wed, 02 May 2007 17:10:
