Re: [EURO-Discuss] ICANN News Alert -- ICANN Publishes Updated gTLD Marketplace Health Index
Hello all, as you know, I am on the Advisory Panel <https://community.icann.org/display/projgtldmarkthealth/gTLD+Marketplace+Hea...> that has worked on putting together this set of statistics. I would be really interested in your feedback ahead of this Sunday. (24 June 2018) That's the day when I am set to meet the main contractor performing the metric collection and analysis. It is a great opportunity if we think that anything should be done differently - but please bear in mind that we have been working on this for over a year and some of the "missing" metrics might be due to objections from some parties, mostly based on the impossibility to find a consensus definition of a specific metric. Anyway, I am all ears to relay your concerns. Kindest regards, Olivier On 21/06/2018 01:11, ICANN News Alert wrote:

ICANN Publishes Updated gTLD Marketplace Health Index
20 June 2018
LOS ANGELES – 20 June 2018 – The Internet Corporation for Names and Numbers (ICANN) today announced that ICANN published an update to the gTLD Marketplace Health Index (Beta), which presents statistics and trends related to generic top-level domains (gTLDs).
View the Health Index <https://www.icann.org//en/system/files/files/gtld-marketplace-health-index-b...> [PDF, 2.86 MB]
The gTLD Marketplace Health Index (Beta) was first published in July 2016. ICANN plans to publish these statistics twice a year to track progress against its goal of supporting the evolution of the domain name marketplace to be robust, stable and trusted. A community Advisory Panel <https://community.icann.org/display/projgtldmarkthealth/gTLD+Marketplace+Hea...> is working with ICANN to refine the Index in preparation for publishing version 1.0.
About ICANN
ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.

Olivier; I found the report encompassing. The only thing that I would add is how much $$ the total business is making. Having said that, now I can see why ICANN is reducing its budget. GTld growth is flat. I wonder if that has to do with sites like Facebook and such were people create pages very easily for all kind of purposes without acquiring a domain name. -ed On Thu, Jun 21, 2018 at 3:24 AM Olivier MJ Crépin-Leblond <ocl@gih.com> wrote:

Eduardo How would you do that? There’s no way I’d give anyone the information about how much we make (or lose) to anyone – it’s commercially sensitive. Also the pricing models that many of us use are quite complex For example the price of a .com domain name ranges from €0 to €15 depending on how you purchase it. And the same is true with many of the other services we and our competitors offer. I don’t think it’s ever going to be possible to get that level of detail I also don’t think ti’s the correct question to ask The questions I’d be asking are things like: * How much is the average industrial wage in $country / $region * What percentage of the population has high speed internet connectivity * How much (on average) does it cost to get a domain name + basic hosting Etc etc Regards Michele -- Mr Michele Neylon Blacknight Solutions Hosting, Colocation & Domains https://www.blacknight.com/ http://blacknight.blog/ Intl. +353 (0) 59 9183072 Direct Dial: +353 (0)59 9183090 Personal blog: https://michele.blog/ Some thoughts: https://ceo.hosting/ ------------------------------- Blacknight Internet Solutions Ltd, Unit 12A,Barrowside Business Park,Sleaty Road,Graiguecullen,Carlow,R93 X265,Ireland Company No.: 370845 From: Eduardo Diaz <eduardodiazrivera@gmail.com> Date: Friday 22 June 2018 at 10:20 To: Michele Neylon <michele@blacknight.com> Cc: Olivier Crepin-Leblond <ocl@gih.com>, ICANN GTLD WG list <gtld-wg@atlarge-lists.icann.org>, Euralo <euro-discuss@atlarge-lists.icann.org>, ICANN list <alac@atlarge-lists.icann.org> Subject: Re: [EURO-Discuss] [ALAC] ICANN News Alert -- ICANN Publishes Updated gTLD Marketplace Health Index Michelle: Thank you for your insight.
View the Health Index <https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/gtld-marketplace-health-index-be...> [PDF, 2.86 MB]

Olivier Are there any details available on how this report was compiled? Ie. What was the methodology A lot of the data being presented is pulled from the data metrics that ICANN has been publishing for a long time. So what I’m trying to understand is what “new” information is being presented by this report. Kindest regards, Olivier On 21/06/2018 01:11, ICANN News Alert wrote: [Image removed by sender. Dear Michele, the report is a follow-up to all of these data metrics, with most being picked from the ongoing data collection that ICANN is performing. The project is meant to sustain the analysis in the long run. More information about the process can be found on https://community.icann.org/display/projgtldmarkthealth/gTLD+Marketplace+Hea...
