The successfully petitioned Candidates, who have received support through a formal vote of at least three of the five RALOs, will be included in the Final Slate. As the culmination of the ICANN Board Director selection process, the BMSPC will organize an election among the Final Slate of Candidates, and the electorates will be At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) Members and Regional At-Large Organization (RALO) Chairs. Background Seat number 15 of the ICANN Board of Directors is dedicated to a member selected by the At-Large Community. This has received support from several ALSes. I have not received any objection to this suggestion. In any case, the only way to proceed with the petition reaquires a vote in EURALO. According to the procedure listed below, I have notified the BMSPC of the identification of Sébastien Bachollet in EURALO as a potential candidate to add to the list. We now have 10 days to conduct a EURALO vote on this. Other RALOs will also need to conduct a vote should they wish to support this addition. Staff will set-up the vote accordingly. Dear EURALO members, a follow-up on my email below. I have received a response from the Chair of the Board Management Selection Process Committee that we do NOT have 10 days to conduct a vote, as other RALO would only consider our request, should our request already be ratified by EURALO. Also, since the request has come so late, this would involve a decision of the BMSPC to show flexibility in accepting a petition beyond the original petition closing date which was Thursday 19 January 2017. Since the deadline for the whole process of petition needs to be complete by Sunday 29 January 2017, I have been told that we need to return to the BMSPC with a position as early as possible and this means that we need to launch a vote NOW, that will end on Monday 23 January 2017, at 23:59 UTC. This is a very short amount of time. Therefore, please be attentive to the ballot arriving in your mailbox shortly and vote as soon as possible, on whether EURALO should request the BMSPC to add Sébastien Bachollet to the Final Slate of candidates that the election process with start with. Well, without being pedantic, I had assumed that the Individual Users ALS would have one vote just like all the other ALS. Otherwise the more the merrier! I have no problem with Sébastien being added to the Final Slate, but is there any info available that tells be why he did not end up there in the first place? https://atlarge.icann.org/news/announcement-987-2016-12-19-en tells me that the BCEC decided to downsize the list of six applicants to a BCEC Slate of two Candidates, to be automatically included in the Final Slate. Hello Bastiaan and all, The task of the BCEC is to identify applicants who would each make an excellent Board Director. Through its evaluation process, the BCEC has identified those applicants who best meet the published Candidate Requirements and have announced those names on the BCEC Slate of Candidates. Information received, obtained, generated, or considered by the BCEC regarding Candidate EoI Forms and any discussions or deliberations of the BCEC’s regarding Candidates remains confidential. However, a Candidate may themselves choose to make public the details of their Expression of Interest. Hope this information helps. On 16 December 2016, the BCEC concluded its Candidate Evaluation process and announced that the following Candidates will be named as the (initial) BCEC Slate of Candidates, be automatically included in the Final Slate, and go forward to the next stage of the selection process organized by the BMSPC. The Candidates, listed in alphabetical order of the last name, are: • Alan Greenberg (Canada) • Leon Felipe Sanchez Ambia (Mexico)
Possible RALO Petition Process Pursuant to Section 19.9 of the ALAC Rules of Procedure (version adopted on 20 September 2016), the BMSPC process involves the option of possible petitions by RALOs to suggest adding Candidates to the Final Slate. RALOs can only suggest Candidates who had previously submitted an EoI to the BCEC during the current selection process; namely, the six Applicants listed above. Candidates will be added only if they receive support through a formal vote of at least three of the five RALOs; each RALO shall vote according to its respective rules. Subsequently, the Final Slate of Candidates will proceed to an election by the ALAC Members and RALO Chairs, which is culmination of the ICANN Board Director selection process.
Possible RALO Petition Process starts from now. Please note the following two deadlines: • By Thursday, 19 January 2017 at 23:59 UTC, each RALO willing to add Candidates to the Slate should have identified additional Candidates and notified the BMSPC. • By Sunday, 29 January 2017 at 23:59 UTC, in case of petition, all RALOs should have decided whether they support any suggested additional Candidates and notified the BMSPC.
Kindly note that RALOs have the option to identify and/or support additional Candidates but are not required to do so, if they believe that only the BCEC Slate of Candidates should be in the Final Slate.
On Tuesday, 31 January 2017, the Final Slate of Candidates, who will proceed to the election, will be announced and their EoIs will be published without disclosing their personal/private information.
Next Steps On 12 January 2017, a Single Purpose Cross RALO call will be organized for RALOs to discuss the BCEC Slate of Candidates and the option of suggesting additional Candidates. Call details and other relevant information will follow.

Through its evaluation process, the BCEC has identified those applicants who best meet the published Candidate Requirements and have announced those names on the BCEC Slate of Candidates. Information received, obtained, generated, or considered by the BCEC regarding Candidate EoI Forms and any discussions or deliberations of the BCEC’s regarding Candidates remains confidential. However, a Candidate may themselves choose to make public the details of their Expression of Interest.
