Hi All
Not confident that I can post to this email list, but I hope it will make its way to you all.
One thing that came to mind when reflecting on our call last week was that while the IDN EPDP didn’t pay particular attention to the question of Board readiness, we did respond to comments we received from ICANN org during the public comment processes. Perhaps in doing so we have implicitly paid attention if we assume that the questions from ICANN org did have Board readiness in mind, or at least know where the Board might have concerns with our outputs. I do know that the some of the comments from ICANN org were drafted by ICANN’s technical expert that participated in the EPDP. I guess there is a lack of transparency about how the Board and ICANN org interact and goes in some part to your question Kurt about whether the same information is being used to make decisions.
I don’t understand why the Board has a public comment process on PDP Final Reports that they receive from the GNSO Council (I’m sure there is a good reason); and I also don’t know what weight the Board gives those comments. I would hope that the GNSO staff supporting a PDP would be consulted on comments received to understand if the comments were raised and addressed during the course of the PDP; or if it’s a new issue and if it is, who decides how to treat the comment?
Anyway, nothing new to each of you, but something that I had really considered before.
Thanks
Donna
