Hi, I was wondering why there’s a meeting for the Translation and Transliteration PDP WG posted on the schedule for Monday the 18th at 07:00 in BA (Room: Retiro B). Isn’t the draft charter on the Council’s agenda for consideration at their next meeting, or have I missed something? Which WG is being referred to, or does the charter drafting team have a meeting for some reason? Thanks. Amr

Hi Amr, Yes, it is a bit confusing. The difficulty is that we needed to reserve a slot for a PDP WG meeting a couple of months ago or we wouldn't have gotten a room. At the time we assumed the charter would be approved. Since it was not it seemed a shame not to keep the slot. It is rather early I know, but we needed to choose that time to avoid conflicts with other meetings. The early morning time-slot is the curse of all/most working groups. While I am certain this is not intentional, this scheduling in my view prevents participation of a larger public instead of encouraging it. Maybe in the future, the priority of these meetings should be given a higher priority as the work of the working groups is the heart and soul of the ICANN multi-stakeholder model. Volker

Dear all, I fully agree with Volker. An early morning meeting (7am) will indeed not create that enthusiastic environment and most probably we will miss good participants (=volunteers) to work on this WG. Having been involved in the charter drafting team already I have to state the very low number of participants in that team. I’m afraid we will miss the best opportunity. My proposal would be to try to make announcements around the whole ICANN 48 meeting and start „lobbying” for participants. Myself, I”m a candidate to join that WG. See you around these days in BA.
