Re: [Gnso-csc] Draft Amended Motion: GNSO CSC Liaison Candidates
Apologies – I caught a typo – a missing “for” in the second paragraph. Also, I have attached the motion as well as the evaluation summary for James. Please let me know if there is anything else you would like me to include or if you have edits. Kind regards, Julie ---------------- Subject: Amended Motion re: GNSO CSC Liaison Selection Dear Councilors, Please see the attached amended motion for the GNSO CSC Liaison Selection for consideration at the Council meeting on 21 July. As noted in the motion, this process began on 1 June 2016, when ICANN sent a request to the ICANN Supporting Organizations (SOs), Advisory Committees (ACs) and Registry Stakeholder Group (RySG) to initiate their respective organization's processes and appoint candidates to serve as members and liaisons on the CSC. As an ICANN Supporting Organization, the GNSO may appoint a liaison to the CSC, in addition to the two gTLD registry operator members to be selected by the RySG. Liaison candidates are to be confirmed by 22 July 2016, and the final slate of CSC members and liaisons as determined by the ccNSO and GNSO Councils will be sent to ICANN not later than 10 August 2016. On 02 June 2016, the GNSO Council confirmed a Selection Committee -- David Cake, Heather Forrest, Rubens Kuhl, Susan Kawaguchi, and Wolf-Ulrich Knoben -- to evaluate the candidates for GNSO liaison. On 20 June 2016, the Selection Committee sent reminders to the GNSO Stakeholder Groups and Constituencies requesting Expressions of Interest from candidates to be submitted by 15 July 2016. Another reminder went out on 11 July. The Selection Committee has completed its evaluation of the single Expression of Interest that it received for the GNSO liaison candidate. We hereby submit the summary of our evaluation of the candidate: James Gannon. Based on our evaluation we recommend James for the role of GNSO Liaison to the CSC. We have amended the motion accordingly. Yes, we are expecting to receive the list of all member and liaison candidates by 23 July, so I will keep the meeting. If not, let’s cancel the call. If yes, let’s decide after we’ve seen it. Wolf-Ulrich – Let me know if you would like me to prepare a brief email for you to send along with the motion to the GNSO Council. Also attached are the summary data from the survey. As you might imagine, for most responses it is not all that interesting, except for #8. If you prefer, I can also send the individual responses. We tentatively have a meeting scheduled on Sunday, 24 July at 2100 UTC to discuss the full slate of members and liaisons. However, as you may have seen there now is a doodle poll to schedule two joint meetings of the ccNSO/GNSO CSC Selection Committees – the times would rotate between 02 August and 04 August to accommodate the wide range of time zones of the participants. Please let me know if you would like to go ahead with the call of just your group on 24 July (it would not include the ccNSO). Thanks to all for the evaluation and your thoughts re the survey and the lack of interest in the job shown. Besides the information provided through the survey I personally could get some knowledge of James and his understanding of IANA. I was on the CWG list where he was actively engaged, and I’m sure about he understande the material. I was thinking about the reasons that just one candidate showed up. It’s not communications – a lot was done on various lists as well as in Helsinki. Maybe it’s the timing and time pressure. The very specialized character of the IANA tasks may also be a point hampering those who are not so familiar with. Time commitment was an issue I heard from someone who was principally interested. Looking forward to the council meeting Wolf-Ulrich From: Julie Hedlund Sent: Tuesday, July 19, 2016 1:16 AM To: gnso-csc@icann.org ; WUKnoben Subject: Draft Amended Motion: GNSO CSC Liaison Candidates Dear Wolf-Ulrich Knoben and CSC members, Please see the attached draft amended motion based on the assumption that James Gannon is the only liaison candidate to be submitted to the GNSO Council. I will be happy to make any changes you suggest. Thanks so much for your assistance. Kind regards, Julie Julie Hedlund, Policy Director
