Hi All
Please see the request below that the leadership team received from Sarmad to stabilise the language associated with preliminary recommendation 6 and
implementation guidance 7 in response to Charter Question C5.
We will discuss this request during our next call and also continue our discussion of the harmonisation topic.
Thanks
Donna

Subject: Request to IDN EPDP leadership on IDN table harmonization recommendations
Dear leadership, please see the message below from ICANN org (Sarmad and team), as requested.
Dear Steve,
As you know, the IDN EPDP team is working on policy recommendations for IDN table harmonization. We are also in conversations with ICANN org’s RSP program team for the Next gTLD Round
and concluded that, even though the primary motivation of the harmonized IDN tables is the secure use of IDNs as already discussed by the IDN EPDP team, having the harmonized tables also significantly reduces the work for RSP applicants and ICANN org when
doing these IDN table reviews.
As ICANN is launching the RSP program in November 2024, we would like to get the IDN table harmonization data in place, ready for implementation when the relevant recommendations are
considered (by GNSO and then by the ICANN Board). So, we were planning to announce a panel for harmonizing IDN tables immediately, based on the relevant IDN EPDP Phase 2 recommendations, after the IDN EPDP team preliminarily agrees on the recommendations.
This allows data to be prepared in parallel now, for later implementation.
In the last call, the IDN EPDP team suggested to review and edit one of the relevant recommendations and the related implementation guidance. This means we will put our announcement
for the panel on hold until the IDN EPDP team has agreed upon stable language for this recommendation.
Due to the dependency of RSP program and its launch in November, we are reaching out to you to request the IDN EPDP leadership team if these recommendations could be taken up and stabilized
as soon as possible, to help us take up the follow-up work and adhere to all relevant timelines for the Next gTLD Round.
Regards,
Sarmad
