We support this approach.

Perhaps it’s an occupational hazard of being an attorney and/or seeing enough IRTs in action, but policy words matter. One person’s perceived wordsmithing could be another person addressing a dealbreaker. With that said, we commit to avoiding unnecessary wordsmithing, and to using the tools and approach suggested by our CPH friends to make the most of our time together.

Janis and leadership team, and behalf of the CPH members, I’m sending our input for the Face to Face planning.

Thank you,

Marc

CPH Input for Face to Face planning:

  • Do NOT waste plenary time wordsmithing language.  At previous face to face meetings there has been a tendency to spend a lot of time trying to tweak language on the fly to make it acceptable to all groups.  If changes are needed to language, it is a better use of time to do so during a break out or in small groups.

  • Don’t turn the F2F into a 3 day long plenary call sitting around a table.  We should take advantage of being in one location to the greatest extent possible, maximizing breakout sessions, small group discussions and team caucuses.  Staff should understand what additional facilities are available for having small group discussions.

  • Allow time to caucus among groups… and across groups.  This is especially true when groups are being asked to agree to a proposal or come up with a compromise to differing positions.

  • Use Zoom to manage the queue!  At previous face to face meetings Zoom hasn’t been used to manage the queue inevitably causing confusion and issues.  We are all used to using Zoom, let's stick with that for queue management.
