Dear EPDP team colleagues: Attached is a memo that is intended to clarify some of the issues related to accreditation. It is meant to be an objective identification of the issues involved, not an advocacy of a particular position. Specifically, I see two distinct purposes that can be identified that people are often combining or confusing when they discuss accreditation. This memo isolates them, defines them, and tries to tease out their implications. I hope that staff/Janis can agree to distribute this memo when we enter into accreditation discussions on the agenda. Thank you, Milton. In my mind good input to stimulate discussion. It would be good if team members would volunteer to do similar write-ups on all so far untouched issues. All, Like Milton I've also thinking about accreditation. Based on our recent discussions and the various comments in/on the Zero Draft it was clear we need a high level (50,000 ft level) framework to put the various aspects of this topic into context. I hope everyone finds this helpful and I'd be happy to walk the team thru this during our discussions this week. Thanks! Milton and Alex, thanks for these memos. I have belatedly discovered an additional use of the term “accreditation” in a related context: the accreditation by a DPA of a party which will monitor compliance to a Code of Conduct which has been approved by that DPA. See https://edpb.europa.eu/sites/edpb/files/files/file1/edpb_guidelines_201901_v... “‘Accreditation’ refers to the ascertainment that the proposed monitoring body meets the requirements set out in Article 41 of the GDPR to carry out the monitoring of compliance with a code of conduct. This check is undertaken by the supervisory authority where the code is submitted for approval (Article 41(1)). The accreditation of a monitoring body applies only for a specific code.” From: Gnso-epdp-team <gnso-epdp-team-bounces@icann.org> On Behalf Of Alex Deacon Sent: Monday, September 9, 2019 07:48 To: EPDP <gnso-epdp-team@icann.org> Subject: Re: [Gnso-epdp-team] Memo on accreditation All, Like Milton I've also thinking about accreditation.
