Subject: Re: [GNSO-EPDPP2-SmallTeam] Practical questions about RDRS launch

Dear Laureen,

Thank you for your questions. Here are our responses:

  1. Currently we are still on track for go-live in late November 2023. The exact date will be shared when it gets a bit closer to the launch date. As for the landing page (the landing page is where requestors would enter the system to submit their requests)for the RDRS, we will share at the time of the launch so to avoid confusion with the informational webpage of www.icann.org/rdrs-en. The RDRS landing page will be posted on www.icann.org/rdrs-en at the time of the launch as well as in our launch announcement. For now, I would advise that people use www.icann.org/rdrs-en for tracking and promotional purpose, as this is where we publish the User Guide, the FAQs, instructional videos, and other pertinent information related to the RDRS.

  1. Communications are essential to reaching potential users (requestors and registrars) of the Registration Data Request Service (RDRS). Our efforts focus on “awareness-raising”, which are complemented by engagement activities from ICANN staff. Key audiences include but are not limited to the ICANN community, consumer protection advocates, cybersecurity investigators, government officials, intellectual property professionals, and law enforcement officials.

Our communications strategy is to create and promote information on RDRS through multiple, integrated channels on a consistent basis. This content includes announcements, blogs, and press releases (distributed via a wire service) that are posted on icann.org and promoted through ICANN’s social media channels, and newsletters. These materials have also been made available to ICANN org staff, along with a presentation, that can be, and has been used in global engagement efforts like speeches at conferences, ICANN Public Meetings, and “one-on-one” meetings. Some notable activities to date include speaking at various events (APAC DNS Forum, Africa Engagement Forum, LAC Roadshow, MEA Spaces, OCTO’s training sessions, and more). We also have a planned presentation at IGF Kyoto in October and possible engagement with INTA during its leadership meeting in December. We are utilizing all available and applicable functions within ICANN, such as Communication, Office of CTO, Government Engagement, Global Stakeholder Engagement, and Global Domains Accounts and Services teams.

As you know, a dedicated RDRS web page has been created on www.icann.org includes general information and recent news, along with supporting material including a flyer, FAQs for registrars and requestors, user guides, instructional videos, webinar recordings, and more.

ICANN org is also reaching out to media, with an emphasis on outlets that reach consumer advocacy, intellectual property, and law enforcement audiences that can particularly benefit from RDRS, to inform this of this new service.

I hope this is helpful.

Thank you,

Yuko

Hi folks,

I wanted to pass along some practical questions that I’m receiving about the RDRS launch:

  1. Is there a web address for system access and when is it expected go live in November?
  2. What efforts is ICANN taking to publicize the system beyond the resources listed at https://www.icann.org/rdrs-en?
