Dear GNSO Small Team,
I hope everybody had a good ICANN78 and I would like to thank you all for the good discussion on Saturday. I wanted to circle back on the questions raised during the session about the data retention topic.
We will retain the domain name data field collected from the lookup and the correspondent registrar. All domain names submitted through the lookup need to be processed (to check whether the registrar
associated to the domain name is participating or not) and this data will be retained by ICANN, regardless of whether or not a request (the form) is submitted. No other data field will neither be processed nor retained if the registrar is not participating
and/or if the request is not submitted.
The list of the domain names searched in the lookup will NOT be published (whether or not the registrar is participating). Neither will the number of ping per domain name, nor will the number
of ping per registrar.
For ease of reference, these are the data points that will be published:
· The
list of participating registrars;
· The
aggregate number of requests that were submitted;
· The
aggregate number of domain name lookups against non-participating registrars; and
· The
number of “print to PDF” used when the domain lookup resulted in non-participating registrar.
I hope this information is helpful.
Thank you, and have a safe travel back if you are in Hamburg!
