Hi Michele,

Apologies for the late message.

As far as a "definition" is concerned, there is no consensus on any official definition. However, from the standpoint of the context that "public interest" entails, we discussed how this relates in regards to new gTLD applications. The discussion today was centered around the Public Interest Commitments and whether or not they fulfill their purpose as being in the public interest, if they are insufficient, and how volunteer Public Interest Commitments should be applied in subsequent procedures. Also, how we should approach these from a policy perspective. Of course, nothing has been decided, but please reference the slides that were shared on the wiki today.

Public Interest is always an “interesting” topic.

Are there any working definitions of what it actually is that have been circulated?

Regards

Michele
