Dear members,

I would like to volunteer for the role of Vice-Chair, according to the point 2.2 of the GNSO Working Group Guidelines, for the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures PDP WG.

I am involved in the Internet policy ecosystem since the WSIS in Tunisia back in 2005, since than I founded the Tunisian Internet Society chapter in 2006, and then elected in Board of Trustees of the Internet Society in 2009. I also served as Board of Directors member of the AfriNIC and as member of the PIR Advisory Board for 6 years.

My involvement within ICANN, beside the WSIS process, began exactly 10 years ago in Marrakech 2006 ICANN meeting. I am a founding member of the AfRALO where I represented the African region in the ICANN NomCom for 2 years. In 2009, I Chaired the At-Large gTLD working group statement on Applicant Guidebook V2. I was also involved in the Arabic Script IDN Working  Group (ASIWG).  In 2009, I co-authored a pre-feasibility study to create a new Dot Arab TLD, now being led by the Arab League.

I am actively involved in the MENA regional DNS ecosystem through the Middle East DNS Forum and the Middle East Strategy Working Group (MESWG).

I recently volunteered for the  gTLD Marketplace Health Index Advisory Panel.

I have no conflict of interest. I work as an independent consultant. Before that I worked for Google as Head of Public Policy and Government Relations in MENA. I am able to commit time to serve the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures PDP WG.

Dear WG Members,
While there have already been some emails exchanged, I wanted to take the opportunity to welcome you all and thank you for volunteering for the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures Policy Development Process Working Group (PDP WG). In addition to the information already shared in the call for volunteers, I wanted to provide you with some further details concerning next steps.

The majority of Members have already completed this task, but as requested by the GNSO Secretariat in the confirmation email that you received after signing up for this WG, please provide a Statement of Interest by going to: https://community.icann.org/x/cYLg if you have not done so already. You will need to use your Confluence Login ID and Password to access this and other workspaces within the Confluence wiki site. If you are a new Confluence user, your ID and Password should have been provided to you; please let gnso-secs at icann.org know if you have not yet received them. For those interested in volunteering for a leadership position in the WG, please review the attached document, which outlines the tasks and expected skills of a GNSO WG Chair. If you would like to put forth your name for a WG leadership position, please feel free to do so on the email list in advance of the first meeting as it is hoped that the selection of the WG Chair(s) will take place during that first meeting.
Recommended materials to review prior to the first meeting
Please review the materials posted on the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures PDP WG's wiki (see https://community.icann.org/x/PAp1Aw) prior to the first meeting, especially:
Newcomer webinars
For those that are new to a GNSO Working Group and/or the GNSO Policy Development Process, we'll be hosting two separate webinars in the near future that are intended to aid newcomers to the GNSO to learn about the administrative workings of a WG (conference call facilities, Adobe Connect, wiki, etc) as well as the GNSO Policy Development Process. You will be receiving further information about these in a separate email. The WG may also identify needs for additional introductory webinars or tutorial materials.
Should you have any questions or comments, please let us know.
Best,
Steve
