Reminder: Applicant Support discussion on July 25th WG Call
All, I just wanted to draw everyone’s attention to the fact that we will likely be starting our next discussion on Applicant Support on the July 25th Working Group call at 15:00 UTC. The reason we are specifically calling this out is because this has been one of the topics that has generated the most amount of interest from the community and the most amount of dissatisfaction from the community on how it was handled in the 2012 round. Although we have a few recommendations from the initial report and some back up for those, we really want to encourage discussion on developing more specific recommendations. Yes, we all know that there is wide dissatisfaction on the way it was handled before, but without concrete recommendations from the community, we will not be able to do better this next time around. Thanks! Reminder: Materials for tomorrow’s call can be found at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11mtncTwPLPx6vpbunACToRZy1vWyls-MxVAb3wqE.... Applicant Support starts at page 17. Jeffrey J. Jeff, I appreciate your flagging that Applicant Support starts today, in a few hours, and I truly hope you have people from all Stakeholder Groups participating. Thursdays have proven almost impossible for me and others in NCSG to participate in -- as we had shared earlier. You are also in direct conflict with IGF-USA, a one-day event today. I fear that "getting things done" -- come hell or high water -- has become more important than reviewing important issues, at a reasonable pace, on WG meeting days long pre-announced (Mondays), together. Hi Kathy, You have a point. . We need closure though. However we are still going round in circles - with the cart before the horse , horse before the cart scenario(s) My personal recommendation would be that ICANN needs to spend some money ASAP , firstly to establish the level of demand around the globe for Round 2 from organisations that have a non for profit / NGO status . Secondly we need to have a definition on which applicant would be eligible for AS. Thirdly , do we make the application fee free for all organisations that fit into that application status . Fourthly I would suggest setting up a small WG ( that would include ICANN staff, an ICANN Board Member ) to put together a “position paper” for presentation to the Board in Montreal. One thing is for sure we CANNOT leave as is . circa 2012. It was Shambolic to say the least, with eventually only 1 applicant of 1930 applications getting the £47500 discount , having itself gone through a huge number of (unnecessary) hoops in the first place to finally get this piddling amount of money. I will be "lurking" on this one on account I have a competing for fee engagement at the time. For the record, the premises on which applicant support was built first go round have not changed. It's the prescription that was flawed. Carlton On Thu, 25 Jul 2019, 7:17 am Kathy Kleiman, <kathy@kathykleiman.com> wrote:
