Some of this info has surprised me, so I'm emailing to check that I've understood correctly and see if I was the only one with a different expectation.

Metric 5 is described in the Report as "the number of disclosure requests that were submitted to participating registrars" - these requests are submitted in RDRS.

Metric 6.2 is "the number of times the data request form for participating registrars has been used" and is calculated by the use of the “export PDF” function - these requests are NOT submitted in RDRS.

I expected these to be completely different sets of requests, but I understand from Lisa's email below that all the requests counted in 6.2 are included in 5 as well.

Metric 5 should be only the requests submitted to registrars through RDRS. We have no way to know if the requests counted in 6.2 are submitted, so how can they be included in the Metric 5?

The effect of including 6.2 in 5 is that the rate of requests made through RDRS seems to be higher than it truly is (nearly double based on the numbers Lisa provided), so this should be clarified and corrected.

I just went through the process. The User Interface does not allow you to hit next and go onto submit info about why you are making the request unless the domain name is properly formed and found to be registered with a participating registrar.

 

So although the various reasons domain names are not acceptable is important, it does not seem to be a subset of the total number of submitted requests. It appears that if you pause typing for a second or so, it will do a lookup and that is what seems to be reported in Metric 10, which is a much higher total than the number of disclosure requests submitted.

 

But that raises another question. Metric 5 is the number of disclosure requests.  Metric 5 is the total number of disclosure requests (170)  for participating registrars as indicated in the metric description above the chart for the Metric and Usage Report for June.

 

Metric 6.1 is labeled "Number of times the data request form for non-participating registrars has been used" but in the detailed description says it is the number of time the export PDF function is used. Metric 6.1  only counts the number of times the request form is downloaded/exported for non-participating registrars.  This data (23)  is not reflected nor tracked in Metric 5.

 

Metric 6.2 is labeled "Number of times the data request form for participating registrars has been
used". Metric 6.2  only counts the number of times the request form is downloaded/exported for participating registrars.  This data  (87) is a subset of the total number of data requests shown in Metric 5 for participating registrars.

 

 

For June, the numbers were 170, 23 and 87.

 

For the record, Metric 10 was 1,579 which matches the idea that it is counting lookups every time typing pauses (my guess is bots do not pause).

 

6.1 + 6.2 do not add up to 5. So I presume that the difference is the number of times the someone finished the form for a non-participating registrar but did NOT export the form. Correct?  You cannot add 6.1 and 6.2 to give you numbers for Metric 5.  As mentioned above, Metric 5 only displays data for total number of disclosure requests for participating registrars.  Given Metric 5 is only tracking disclosure requests for participating registrars, if you take the Metric 5 total of 170  and subtract the 87 downloaded/exported request forms for participating registrars the remaining 83 requests are for participating registrars where the request form was not downloaded. 

 

170       Total disclosure request for participating registrars in June (Metric 5):    170

- 87       Total number of times the data request form was downloaded for participating registrars (Metric 6.2)

   83        Total number of requests where the data request  form for participating registrars was not downloaded.

 

If I have that right, it means that of the 170 requests entered, 87 were for participating registrars and 82 for non-participating registrars.  Your calculation  here does not tell you the number of non-participating registrars. Rather it tells you the number of requests for participating registrars where no form was downloaded/exported.

Or am I missing something???
