Michele Neylon: (10:59) Hi - I'll dial in now Julie Bisland: (11:00) I've informed the operator to watch for you, MIchele James Galvin (Afilias): (11:02) Only just realized I need to dial-in. Will do that now. Michele Neylon: (11:02) adobe audio should work Michele Neylon: (11:02) for values of work .. James Galvin (Afilias): (11:03) not giving me that option James Galvin (Afilias): (11:03) it's telling me I have to dial in Julie Bisland: (11:04) my fault, James, try now Julie Bisland: (11:04) you should be able to 'connect audio' Julie Bisland: (11:05) audio is only James and you James Galvin (Afilias): (11:06) now on Adobe audio Stephanie Perrin: (11:10) Can we also join other groups? Stephanie Perrin: (11:10) I want to join law enforcement Stephanie Perrin: (11:11) are these meetings being archived? Michele Neylon: (11:11) Stephanie - they're being archived Julie Bisland: (11:11) greg, we can't hear you Stephanie Perrin: (11:11) great thanks Greg Aaron: (11:11) Dayjob interferes sometimes Michele Neylon: (11:12) :) Greg Aaron: (11:14) dialing in on eh line but lo moderator is avaialble to take my passcode Michele Neylon: (11:15) Julia can you assist him please? Michele Neylon: (11:15) Julie even - sorry Julie Bisland: (11:15) yes, chatting the operator now Greg Aaron: (11:16) I am on on the line now Julie Bisland: (11:16) I see you're on, super, thanks Greg Stephanie Perrin: (11:19) Hopefully not. Stephanie Perrin: (11:19) My point, in case anyone missed it, is that this is a bit of a red herring. Stephanie Perrin: (11:20) I did not say it is not legitimiate, if I recall correctly. Greg Shatan: (11:21) if I understand the aim of Greg Shatan: (11:22) this group, it is understand facts rather than to express opinions. Greg Shatan: (11:22) if Greg Shatan: (11:22) if that research is happening then it is on topic for this group. Stephanie Perrin: (11:23) Fine. Stephanie Perrin: (11:23) I will drop any objections I have to us pursuing this Greg Shatan: (11:23) we are trying to uncover the facts as we know them to be from our area of experience. Stephanie Perrin: (11:26) My recollection of this topic in the EWG discussions was that the topic was not dealt with extensively at all, and thus remains very squishy. Greg Shatan: (11:26) not on audio yet Julie Bisland: (11:31) he's just joining audio Greg Shatan: (11:35) happy to be Mr shatan or Greg s. Greg Shatan: (11:36) or Greg a and Greg b. Julie Bisland: (11:37) no audio, Stephanie Julie Bisland: (11:38) please note: Nathalie Coupet has joined the audio bridge and is muted. Stephanie Perrin: (11:39) It is not a purpose, it is a usage of the data. Stephanie Perrin: (11:39) I think it makes it more clear. Stephanie Perrin: (11:40) It is a current useage. In fact we have two very separate usages to grapple wth Stephanie Perrin: (11:41) +1 Stephanie Perrin: (11:44) Why are we describing the non-academic research as public interest research? It opens up a giant can of worms, namely the as yet un-defined natrue of the public interest at ICANN. Stephanie Perrin: (11:45) And if a legitimate company (eg Symantec) does research on the DNS in order to gain market dominance in a particular security matter, is that market research, product (eg algorithm) , or "public interest" research. I think this is a very dicey area, diffcult to define. Stephanie Perrin: (11:46) that was product development research Stephanie Perrin: (11:50) wednesday for me, so monday tuesday would be better Stephanie Perrin: (11:51) Thanks! Greg Aaron: (11:51) Can staff post pages 2 and 3 in a Google doc? Greg Aaron: (11:51) Thanks Stephanie Perrin: (11:51) Lovely. If we could take over the Tuesday regular slot it will be great James Galvin (Afilias): (11:51) bye all thanks Greg Shatan: (11:52) bye
