Taking my chair hat off and putting my RySG hat on, the timing of this seems questionable to many gTLD registries because of all the work that is going on with RDDS. Implementing RDAP at this stage will not take advantage of any of the advantages of RDAP and instead just perpetuate what happens with the current Whois protocol under RDAP. The RySG is currently considering how to react to this. This has been the pushback from the Registrars side too. Chuck, Thanks. Frankly, the timing seems like a bad idea to me, and basically guarantees that a lot of people are going to have to do extra work. First they will have to migrate to RDAP today, with no benefits. Later they will have to implement requirements based on the outcome of this working group. Sadly since it looks like documents that are designed to appear to carry the force of law have already been sent, so I doubt that ICANN will change course. But I'd be happy to be proven wrong!
