Time Zone Rotation - 23:00 UTC?
Hello everyone, Staff would like to ask your input on potential time zone rotation for the Providers Sub Team calls. Among the 11 people<https://community.icann.org/x/3BW8B> in the Sub Team (nine members + one observer + one WG Co-Chair), three people are located in the APAC time zone, two in Europe, and six in North/South America. The 18:00 UTC time is especially inconvenient for those in the APAC time zone. Would it be helpful that we hold the meeting at 23:00 UTC periodically? This would be 7am in Singapore/HK/ Kuala Lumpur, and 11pm in the UK. It is still not ideal, but it would be better than 18:00 UTC when APAC colleagues most likely could not attend. Of course, the frequency of the rotation depends on the number of future Sub Team meetings that we foresee. Perhaps we will gain more clarity after next week’s call. In the meantime, please let the group know whether holding meeting at 23:00 UTC would be feasible, and if so, whether we can do that for next week’s call. If not, do you have suggestions on alternative time? Thank you for your consideration! I think my 2 APAC colleagues would appreciate a rotation to include a more APAC-friendly time, as would I. Having said that and speaking for myself, I don't anticipate that many calls to get through this subteam's work so I'm happy to try to join the calls at whatever time they are scheduled. I had a similar experience being on the Trademark Claims subteam where I found the mailing list to be a useful alternative channel to provide input. The Rules-Procedure-Supplementary Rules comparison table would be another constructive avenue for input once that's ready. Thanks for raising this Ariel. I’m supportive of the notion of accommodating non-US (and particularly AsPac) participants and I’ll do my best to join any call at 11pm, provided I don’t have a conflict. I hope others won’t take offence if I am a tad more grumpy than usual. I’d love to see AsPac-friendly call rotations occasionally that were within the working day for Middle East and Europe even if that means it’s not so good for the US. 7am in the UK is 8/9/10 in Europe, 5pm I think in HK/SG/CN, would have West Coast US joining at 11pm for a change and is 2am on the East Coast US. That’s no more unreasonable than routinely scheduling calls at 3 or 4am for those based in the time zones of Justine or I. I do recognise this sub group isn’t the place where that’s going to happen given the small size and locations of the group, and I think the time you’ve identified is the most reasonable in the circumstances Ariel – it’s just a personal bugbear! And I agree with Justine – hopefully we won’t need too many calls since this is a self-contained task and we can also progress work over email.
