FOR REVIEW: suggested industry blogs for gathering information; ICANN60 schedule
Dear all, This email is to follow up on (1) an outstanding Action Item for staff from the Working Group meeting on 16 August 2017; and (2) the scheduling of our sessions at ICANN60 in Abu Dhabi. On (1): Staff was requested to prepare and circulate a list, for members’ comments, of suggested domain name industry blogs and news sites that can be searched for coverage of issues relating to Sunrise and Premium Pricing, and the use of Premium Names and Reserved Names lists. We believe the following are the main industry sources (in alphabetical order): * Circle ID: http://www.circleid.com/ * Domain Incite: http://domainincite.com/ * Domain Pulse: http://www.domainpulse.com/ * Domain Name Journal: http://www.dnjournal.com/ * Domain Name Wire: http://domainnamewire.com/ * Internet News: https://www.internetnews.me/ * The Domains: https://www.thedomains.com/ Please let us know if you have concerns or comments on the list. In addition, it was suggested that Working Group should consider whether to also add a list of blogs that cover domain issues of concerns to brand owners (one example that comes to mind is Trademarks and Brands Online: http://www.trademarksandbrandsonline.com/). Please comment if you have thoughts on this additional suggestion. On (2): Please find attached the most recent draft GNSO community schedule for the ICANN60 Public Meeting in Abu Dhabi, scheduled from 28 October – 3 November. In accordance with the session requests that staff put in following consultations with our co-chairs, this Working Group has been allotted a total of six hours of meeting time, divided as follows: * Saturday 28 October: two 90-minute sessions starting at 15.15 local time * Monday 30 October: a third 90-minute session starting at 15.15 local time * Thursday 2 November: a fourth, and final, 90-minute session starting at 13.30 local time Please note that, as with all ICANN Public Meetings, finding slots with minimal conflicts for as many participants as possible is not easy. Staff has worked closely with the GNSO Council leadership to try to ensure that there are no conflicts with major GNSO working sessions and the other PDP Working Groups, while minimizing conflicts with broader cross-community sessions that may be of interest to the GNSO community. This meeting will also be ICANN’s Annual General Meeting, and in accordance with the community-developed meeting strategy there will be two Public Forums, a whole day dedicated to community groups (generally called “Constituency Day”) and much of a day dedicated to discussing the work of the various GNSO policy groups (i.e. the GNSO Working Sessions on Sunday 29 October). Please let us know if you have questions about the schedule. This is a draft schedule that is still subject to change, but we are hopeful that the four RPM sessions are more or less firm. As always, remote participation (e.g. Adobe Connect, phone bridge, transcriptions and recordings) will be available for those who will not be attending the meetings in person. Thanks and cheers Mary
Hi Mary, It seems imperative that we include blogs and publications that cover domain issues of importance to brand owners. We cannot credibly only cover one side of the issue. For (1), the following sources could be added: (i) OnlineDomain.com (ii) DomainInvesting.com (blogger Elliot Silver is a member of this PDP) (ii) MorganLinton.com (iv) DomainGang.com (NB: some articles are parody, but others, marked 100% true, are not) (v) NamePros.com (vi) gTLD.link Of course, one should also search the comments to posts too, as they often contain relevant data. Hi, Mary, Kiran & George, Most people who run a blog do so because they have a passion for what they write about. I'm sure if ICANN wrote to them asking if they could provide a list of links to relevant articles for each of the subjects the WG is looking into most would be happy to help out. Best regards, Paul. It's even easier than that, since most sites have a search function, to find the relevant articles, and/or are publicly indexed in Google, Bing, etc. Indeed, that's what the site owners would be doing to answer such a query -- we can do that ourselves, and save them the time and effort. [that's how I came up with the list of additional sources] What they could be asked for, though, is for sponsored/paid posts to gather *additional* data that this working group needs. Thanks, Cyntia and George for the suggestions. Staff has placed all suggestions (starting with the initial list circulated by staff) on the Working Group wiki page where this was recorded as an action item: https://community.icann.org/x/ShMhB. We will continue to update the page if more suggestions come in, and will circulate an updated list at the end of this week. Following Working Group agreement on which sources to look at, staff will search the various sources in line with the scope of this set of Charter questions (issues concerning Sunrise and Premium Pricing, and the use of Premium Names and Reserved Names lists).
