Call for Volunteers: Leadership for Standing Predictability Implementation Review Team (SPIRT)
Dear SPIRT, Welcome to the Standing Predictability Implementation Review Team (SPIRT)! We have now completed our initial membership. A wiki<https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/x/nwB2HQ> has been established to provide further information and present the current members of the team. See members here: https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/x/AQCJHQ. Our first order of business is to select our Leadership – One Chair and up to Two Vice-Chairs per the <https://community.icann.org/download/attachments/64077773/Standing%20Selecti...> Charter<https://gnso.icann.org/sites/default/files/policy/2025/draft/version2point0-...>: “The Chair of the SPIRT is a volunteer position, filled and selected by the SPIRT from amongst its members and confirmed by the GNSO Council. The SPIRT may also select up to two Vice-Chairs, also from amongst its members, which does not require GNSO Council confirmation. The leadership team shall serve a two-year term, with the role being reviewed by the GNSO Council every two years.” Accordingly, this email serves as a Call for Volunteers for the Chair and Vice-Chair(s) positions of the SPIRT. Please respond to this email on the SPIRT list if you would like to volunteer, and/or if you would like to nominate someone in the Team by Friday, 21 November 2025, at 23:59 UTC. The volunteers will be put forward to the list and confirmed by non-objection. Subsequently, the confirmed names of the Chair and Vice-Chair(s) shall be submitted to the GNSO Council for formal confirmation at its meeting on Thursday, 11 December 2025, at 21:00 UTC. If the SPIRT should need more time to choose its Chair/Vice-Chair(s), this motion can be deferred to the GNSO Council’s January Meeting. In addition, should multiple applications be received for the leadership role(s), we propose that the candidates seek a suitable solution amongst themselves or if unable to do so, hold a team vote through a doodle poll. In any event, we would like to ideally complete this process by the end of year so that the SPIRT is ready for action from the beginning of the new year (January 2026). Next, an email has already been sent to you with a Doodle poll to help us schedule a 60-minute Kick-off Meeting. Please also complete the Doodle poll by Friday, 21 November 2025, at 23:59 UTC. Once the Kick-off Meeting is scheduled, a draft agenda will be sent to the list. Please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any questions or concerns. Thank you. Dear GNSO SPIRT team members, First of all, I wish to express my gratitude for being part of this team. I am genuinely interested in supporting the GNSO SPIRT team in any way that would be helpful. To present myself a bit better to you, from an outside ICANN perspective, my background includes finance, law, and technology, with substantial experience supporting teams. It would be my honor to assist any of you, whether within ICANN matters or beyond and you are more than welcome to contact me. For now, my focus is on getting to know the team and contributing to the GNSO SPIRT’s collaborative work. If, in the future, the team considers me suitable for a chair role, I would gladly accept. My current priority is helping the group stay engaged in the entrusted mission and achieve its goals. All, This is a crowded field of great volunteers. I would like to throw my hand up as well for one of the leadership positions having worked with this next round and subsequent rounds since the beginning of the SubPro process in 2014 or 2015, first with the discussion group, then co-chairing with Avri the SubPro PDP, and then with Cheryl. I believe it is essential for this first SPIRT to make sure that there is at least one person on the leadership team that is not only deeply familiar with policies behind the new gTLD policies, but also with the application process, and with registry operations (both front and back-ends). One of the key roles of the SPIRT team will be to help determine whether a proposed change has a material impact on applicants (including their back-end providers). Having run registry operations for a number of gTLD and ccTLD Registries, in addition to all of the policy elements contained within the SubPro PDP, the Council small teams, and the IRT, I believe I can help ensure that the voices of the community and applicants can be heard and considered. Dear SPIRT, I too would like to offer my services as a potential Vice-Chair of the SPIRT. I have been involved as an observer with ICANN since 2017 and been responsible for global domain name and brand protection operations for a global financial services company for 16+ years. This included the application and all operations of a dotBrand during the first round. I feel my business experience and knowledge would help ensure SPIRT provides a balanced view between future applicants and the wider safety and security of the DNS. Dear SPIRT,
Welcome to the Standing Predictability Implementation Review Team (SPIRT)!
We have now completed our initial membership. A wiki <https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/x/nwB2HQ> has been established to provide further information and present the current members of the team. See members here: https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/x/AQCJHQ.
Our first order of business is to select our Leadership – One Chair and up to Two Vice-Chairs per the <https://community.icann.org/download/attachments/64077773/Standing%20Selecti...> Charter <https://gnso.icann.org/sites/default/files/policy/2025/draft/version2point0-...> :
*“The Chair of the SPIRT is a volunteer position, filled and selected by the SPIRT from amongst its members and confirmed by the GNSO Council. The SPIRT may also select up to two Vice-Chairs, also from amongst its members, which does not require GNSO Council confirmation. The leadership team shall serve a two-year term, with the role being reviewed by the GNSO Council every two years.”*
Accordingly, this email serves as a *Call for Volunteers for the Chair and Vice-Chair(s) positions of the SPIRT. Please respond to this email on the SPIRT list if you would like to volunteer, and/or if you would like to nominate someone in the Team **by Friday, 21 November 2025, at 23:59 UTC* *.** The volunteers will be put forward to the list and confirmed by non-objection. Subsequently, the confirmed names of the Chair and Vice-Chair(s) shall be submitted to the GNSO Council for formal confirmation at its meeting on Thursday, 11 December 2025, at 21:00 UTC.*
Next, an email has already been sent to you with *a Doodle poll to help us schedule a 60-minute Kick-off Meeting*. *Please also complete the Doodle poll by Friday, 21 November 2025, at 23:59 UTC.* Once the Kick-off Meeting is scheduled, a draft agenda will be sent to the list.
Please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Saewon
