Well I am confused since Karen suggested "that we have staff circulate another survey monkey with only the ranking section and with only these top 13 candidates' names listed." So it sounds like the other candidates would be removed from further consideration. Apologies if I am misunderstanding...

Hi Mike,
The polling tool is just that — a tool to aid further discussion on Monday’s call. It is not for making decisions. No candidates are excluded from consideration and the poll is not mandatory. All SSC members should feel free to suggest any candidates. The decision-making consensus call will happen on the SSC list after the next meeting, not during the meeting, so those not in the meeting can participate.
Kind regards,Saewon & Julie

Thanks Julie for the further explanation. But it seems a vote was conducted and now Karen is proposing cutting about 1/3 of the candidates out from further consideration, based on the 'vote' tally from the meeting, documented in the spreadsheet. That would be inappropriate. Am I missing something? It seems to me that vote needs to be conducted by email, not via a phone call.

Hi Mike,
Apologies if it was not clear, but the SSC has not conducted a consensus call and will not do so until after next week’s meeting on 08 July and only after being announced in advance and by the Working Group Guidelines as you have noted. And according to those Guidelines there will be no vote, rather a call for consensus in which all SSC members can participate. The ‘vote’ in the chat was not a consensus call, but an informal taking the temperature of the room to help the staff add nuance to the Google spreadsheet to improve its use as a tool for further discussion next Monday the 8th when we hope the SSC can come to agreement and then move a 48-hour consensus call held on the SSC list.
We hope this is helpful and that you are enjoying your family time. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
Kind regards,Saewon & Julie

i could not make the call today as I am on family vacation.
Please consider that "Number of votes in chat during call" is an inappropriate way to gauge consensus in any ICANN working group. This is an age old issue, that I believe was resolved ages ago with Working Group guidelines that specified this. It is simply not fair to give more disregard anyone's 'vote' merely because they were not able to attend a call. In other words, those who cannot attend any particular call must have precisely equal voting rights to all other members of the SSC.
In my humble opinion, those of us who could not make the call must still be allowed to 'vote' and have that considered equally to the votes that were cast.

_______________________________________________Hi everyone, Based on what's in the new spreadsheet Saewon has circulated, and what we discussed on the call today, I would like to suggest that we have staff circulate another survey monkey with only the ranking section and with only these top 13 candidates' names listed. We would each rank this group only and then see who is in the top seven spots. In these 13 candidates we have every region represented. I would submit that it would then be up to the individual committee member to decide what criteria influences their rankings.
I would ask that these rankings be submitted by 23:00 on Friday to allow staff time to tabulate the results prior to our call on Monday.
For those members who did not respond to the first survey and weren't on the call today, please do listen to the recording and review these materials so that you can participate in this ranking activity. Your participation is vital to our mission.
Thanks!

Subject: [Gnso-ssc] Suggested List of Candidates (with Notes) | SSC - Pilot Holistic Review candidates evaluation call | Monday, 01 July 2024EXTERNAL
Dear SSC members,
Per our call today, please find the google spreadsheet that contains the votes during the call and ranking that follows: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1P9XZ3hd0J6GfaOpStV92zSpWDkqXwl7rmatNfwS07uU/edit?usp=sharing [protect.checkpoint.com]
Some points to note from the spreadsheet ranking:
- The order of names (No. in A column) is in the order of ranking from today’s call.
- The Top 9 (until Ranking 7) have 3 votes, and the Top 13 (until Ranking 10) have 2 votes. (I could not cut the Top 10 and/or the Top 12 due to the identical number of votes)
- The column J in red shows the poll results to compare to: In ranking 7’s, Marie Pattullo overlaps with the Poll result; In ranking 10’s there are no overlapping candidates.
- Mark Datysgeld that ranked 3rd in the Poll Result is excluded in the call ranking today based on the discussions (i.e., previous SSC appointee)
Other than the spreadsheet with rankings to help the members with the decision, kindly find the attached survey results, that were also shared in the meeting, for your reference.
Below, you will also find the notes/details from the meeting to help you in your decision-making process.
Kind regards,
Julie and Saewon.

- The SSC Chair pointed out that Mark Datysgeld was one of the last SSC members, if a need to consider when allowing for different people to participate.
- Geographic criteria does not seem to be considered within this result and may need a different approach
- Any term limits for these candidates? – No. Subject to the duration of the project as it will be more like a PDP/WG.

- Discussion points:
- How should the evaluation process proceed was discussed, and a suggestion was to select the top 10, then drop to 7 (or top 12) based on the region, participation, recent project, etc.
- A suggestion that Diversity must be put into consideration as regions cannot be left unconsidered was raised and agreed upon by the members.
- Each member shared their rankings and they are as follows (in the order of ranking):
