Fwd: [Ext] Draft SSC Charter Review document
Hello All, We have one more task to complete review of the SSC charter. It would be great to complete this before the end of the year. Attached is a draft review of the charter that staff helpfully prepared. Maxim and I have added our edits and concerns. Please review and and your thoughts to the document. I will have staff send out a doodle poll for the week of December 18th. I know this is close to the holidays but I am hoping we can make headway on the charter. Thanks all, Susan
Hi Thanks for sending this charter with suggested edits. Can I suggest we register our edits in a Google Docs? Another suggestion: can we close poll next Tuesday and do the meeting on Thursday or Friday? It's just that not only 18th is the approaching holidays, it is also IGF week and several of ICANN will be in activities there. Hi I had a situation recently which I was in doubt if this could be an SSC remit. GNSO can appoint representatives to regional strategies. So regional GSE may contact GNSO Chairs (or regional leadership) for those suggestions of appointment. NCUC has, by design, regional balance in leadership (an Executive Committee representative per region). But I know others don't have this design. So in case there is a need for a GNSO-wide selection process for regional representation, would this be an SSC remit? Also comes to mind recent ALAC appointments for WT5 for "regional liason". Since GNSO doesn't organize itself this way (through regional representation) I'm not sure if this would be in SSC remit, probably not. Hi Renate, The way the charter is currently phrased is that any assignment to the SSC is per the request of the GNSO Council, so in theory this could include any type of appointment that the GNSO Council may be asked to deal with (should the Council decide that it would like the SSC deal with this). The charter gives as a specific example review teams and structures related to the Empowered Community, but the requests do not need to be limited to that as currently phrased. See: “The GNSO Standing Selection Committee (SSC) is tasked, as requested by the GNSO Council, to 1), where applicable, prepare and issue calls for applications related to the selection or nomination of candidates for ICANN structures such as ICANN review teams as well as structures related to the Empowered Community (….)”.
