I can't speak for the domain space, but in the RIR world some people tend to memorize their organization and contact ids. Some, but certainly not all.
OTOH, what is the purpose of the enforcement of unique ROIDs and the IANA registry for the suffixes then? Do the NSA and FBI need them?
If registry .bar and registry .baz both formulate the ROID "foo", then foo.bar and foo.baz could be used to distinguish who has what. -andy
