*Dear Rinalia,* * * *thank you for drawing attention to this. Having had an indirect connection with ccNSO matters (as Chair of the ccNSO Review), I'd like to offer 2 comments:* * * *- At this stage, I don't have any definitive view about whether there should be an ALAC response or not. The nature of the issue will certainly cause many people to leave comments, and these may or may not include a vigorous defense of the global public interest. If the latter were lacking, or insufficient, then ALAC should step in.* * * *- I'd like to make sure that the system remains open and fair, for instance between states sharing the same language(s), e.g. Arabic or Chinese. The issue is not unlike the one in the IDN Variants debate, where there was a tendency for certain states to claim (and act as if) a language or a script was theirs alone, forcing others to accept their national norms. It's quite possible that this problem may not arise, or that it has been settled. Do you share my concern?* * * *Best regards,* *Jean-Jacques. * 2013/2/6 Rinalia Abdul Rahim <rinalia.abdulrahim@gmail.com>

This is very interesting prospective. Given that the PDP is about IDN ccTLDs, the TLD strings should all be pertinent "country or territority names". It would be rare that one ccTLD want to interfere another ccTLD's IDN string in the same character set. At least, there is no problem in Chinese or CJK group, e.g. “日本” fortunately is the same in both Chinese and Japanese and "新加坡" is the same in both China and Singapore. I'm not so sure about Arabic usage of country names. Hong

thank you for your reaction. Not having followed every step of the debate, I do have a question : will the following variants have equal standing, and be accepted in China, Singapore and Taiwan, 中國 / 中国 台灣 / 台湾
Yes, Chinese community through CDNC has adopted the uniform variant table. It is pretty sure that the above pairs of strings are deemed the same in the community. Hong .

* *- I'd like to make sure that the system remains open and fair, for instance between states sharing the same language(s), e.g. Arabic or Chinese. The issue is not unlike the one in the IDN Variants debate, where there was a tendency for certain states to claim (and act as if) a language or a script was theirs alone, forcing others to accept their national norms. It's quite possible that this problem may not arise, or that it has been settled. Do you share my concern?* *
