IRT Meeting #3 & #4 Confirmation/Meeting #2 Follow Up
Dear IRT, I hope this finds everyone in good spirits, and that those of you who participated in last week’s WIPO Conference are well recovered. Best wishes, also, to any of you attending next week’s ICANN Contracted Parties Summit in Hanoi, whether virtually or in person. As you may have noticed, Renate has kindly issued invites for the next two IRT meetings, on 14 May & 28 May, both at 14-:00 15:00 UTC. Materials will be issued closer to the date of each meeting. Scheduling aside, I wanted to writing concerning two issues that arose during our last meeting (the recording of which is available on our Wiki page<https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ICRIRT/overview>): Revised Assumptions Document Firstly, following our discussion of the ICANN org Implementation Assumptions<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jwPc5Mb30eeOgSFkGuUhmDQYpamtVIKz4n_QeRTy...> document, we have made some edits to Assumption 5. These clarify ICANN org’s perspective on the Implementation Guidance contained in Annex A of the EPDP Final Report<https://gnso.icann.org/sites/default/files/file/field-file-attach/epdp-speci...> and acknowledge the established procedure to be followed in the event of any divergence. I have made the updates directly on the version stored on the IRT external drive – please see the highlighted link. Happy to discuss should you feel additional amendments or clarifications are required. GAC Advice informing PDP Recommendation 4 Secondly, following a request during our discussion of PDP recommendation 4<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tEMM7O-6_ddPom8_OZ6aQ78gIwhWrvsxktOKpz_P...>, concerning the question of subsidies for IGO/INGO complainants, I would like to draw to your attention the GAC Advice item in the ICANN51 Los Angeles Communique<https://gac.icann.org/contentMigrated/icann51-los-angeles-communique>, which, as noted in the PDP Final Report, informed this particular recommendation. I have included the relevant excerpt for context below, available in full on page 6 of the Communique: “5. Protection of Inter-Governmental Organisation (IGO) Names and Acronyms ii. Concerning curative protection at the second level, and noting the ongoing GNSO PDP on access to curative Rights Protection Mechanisms, the GAC reminds the ICANN Board that any such mechanism should be at no or nominal cost to IGOs...” I hope you find this information helpful. Please feel free to reach out on list or privately if you have any questions or comments.
