Re: Council Meeting Outcome and Next Steps
Dear All, Many thanks and congratulations to Damon for successfully presenting the IRT’s request at today’s Council meeting. We can now proceed along the timeline outlined during yesterday’s IRT meeting, with the goal of reaching public comment before ICANN85. As discussed during yesterday’s meeting, I encourage the IRT, individually or collaboratively, to provide suggestions on language around the new use-case in the current draft copies linked below, or in the attached Word documents, by 26 January. This will aid staff when drafting updates and provide a solid basis for subsequent discussions. For guidance or ideas, please see section 5 of the attached slide deck, also shared yesterday, which contains some high-level initial drafting ideas and questions from staff. LINK TO GOOGLE DOCS (EXTERNAL IRT DRIVE): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ai1BFeCK51eloe7cHPaI5YIoWvlQYMdJ I will be in touch shortly to arrange a (longer) meeting to discuss updates to the UDRP and URS, which staff will provide in advance. Specifically, During the 15 January 2026 GNSO Council meeting, the GNSO Council confirms that the intent of the EPDP policy recommendations was to enable the respondent to a UDRP or URS dispute to voluntarily leverage alternative dispute resolution mechanisms at any time once the UDRP or URS proceeding has been initiated, and the policy recommendations enabling the new arbitral proceeding should not be read to limit that ability. I doubt the resolution has been posted yet but see the link below in a few hours and it should be there. You can find the GNSO Council meeting agenda here: https://icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/x/kIAtJ [icann-community.atlassian.net]<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/icann-community.atlassian.net/wiki/x/kIAt...> GNSO Council Resolutions found here: https://gnso.icann.org/en/council/resolutions/2020-current [gnso.icann.org]<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/gnso.icann.org/en/council/resolutions/202...> Let me know if you have any questions.
