Developing language for REDACTED FOR PRIVACY

Hello IRT, I was personally a bit unclear on where we left this from today's call, so I wanted to close the loop on list. Phase 1 left it to implementation to decide what language would be substantially similar to REDACTED FOR PRIVACY, which must be returned where applicable. While I understand we have some hesitation about being too proscriptive, I think there is overriding value in being proscriptive here for two reasons: 1. There is actually value to implementers in knowing exactly how to treat these fields, as it makes implementation easier and less risky (otherwise how do implementers know if the language they want to use is sufficiently "substantially similar")? 2. Users of RDS data need to know clearly whether a privacy/proxy service is being used, or if the data is redacted by policy (REDACTED BY POLICY might actually be clearer substitute language). RDS users need to know whether to go to SSAD to request redacted data, or to the P/P service to request disclosure under the P/P policy. Ambiguity here not only harms those who need the data, but also those who would receive requests for the underlying data, or compliance complaints about not providing the data when this ambiguity leads to erroneous requests. Unless I'm missing something, the value of being proscriptive here, and the risk of not being proscriptive, really outweighs the minor convenience to implementers of choosing their own language. I gave a heads-up during the webinar and we will be sharing it this week with the community including EPDP Phase 2, this group, and others. As part of ICANN org’s research for Recommendation 17.2 of the EPDP Team’s Phase 1 Final Report, this is a short questionnaire to collect input on the risks, feasibility, and costs of differentiating between legal and natural persons in registration data directory services (RDDS). Any members of the IRT with relevant input are encouraged to complete the questionnaire. In addition, we ask that IRT members help disseminate it to colleagues and groups who may have a perspective on the subject. The questionnaire will be open until 20 March 2020. The feedback will be integrated into the report on Recommendation 17.2, which we aim to share with the EPDP Team in May. Please let me know of any additional questions. Dear IRT, Thanks for supporting the Webinar earlier. I thought it is interesting that there were no questions but we’ll see if we receive them later. As for the ICANN67, we were asked to provide inputs to the planning team today. FYI. I asked that we have one IRT session. Meaning that we are dropping one of two IRT sessions to make it easier for the planning team. The format will be an Open Zoom like we had it today at the Webinar.
