Yes, you are correct. The Staff calculations are wrong because they are premised on misunderstanding of facts. And, a misinterpretation of the process.

The first act after nomination closed is a consensus call for the sole nominee. If that call is quorate and no objection, the sole nominee is [s]elected.

If a member objects, that member must do so in writing and invoke the extended UNGA Rules by way of RoP 18.1.

One or more members must have asked for a roll call to verify that the member from DevNet - as sole nominee - is what the group wants. There was a lot of time elapsed between the nomination period and this poll. And I may not have been fully attentive and missed the mail where a member objected and requested the poll. I would advise the member from DevNet to request an audit for verification.

So now, to the poll.

The requirement for those that say 'NO', meaning a consensus does not exist, is they MUST demonstrate they are in the majority. And it must be the entire membership on which those calculations must be based.

An online vote assumes all members are present. The rationale for holding the poll over 7 days is to ensure all members have time to respond.

Starting with the entire membership, the "NO" votes can only prevail if it is 50% + 1 of the entire membership. That is the ONLY threshold that can set aside a valid sole nomination under the rules that are being invoked. I would strongly advise the member from DevNet to insist on his rights under the rules.

I was born and socialised to reject patience as a virtue. For it usually is the call of those who would rob and pillage your birthright, like freedom. So I am not given to being patient with cant.

I am just weary of it.
