[lac-discuss-es] UNESCO - Iniciativas digitales para lenguas indígenas
[[-- Translated text (es -> en) --]] Colleagues and participants, At https://unesdoc.unesco.org/ark:/48223/pf0000388256 you can find an extensive text produced by UNESCO under the title "Initiatives digital tools for indigenous languages", of enormous interest to people who work in that field or have to attend to it as part of other initiatives for access to infrastructure, promotion of culture, education, commerce, government, and many other areas. It is very notable that the document NEVER cites the domain names of the DNS, much less the internationalized ones or IDNs. The alternatives that arise for our community from this study are basically two mutually exclusive, fine-grained combinations chronological, spatial or institutional between both: to. accept that the importance of domain names for development digitalization of indigenous languages is marginal and devoting energy to others more urgent projects capable of producing significant changes; b. reject that conclusion and initiate a project that demonstrates to UNESCO the magnitude of its error and entails a rectification, either through a addendum, be it through a new edition, and also entails the application of UNESCO resources for the promotion of IDNs in the field of digital initiatives for indigenous languages. Until now at LACRALO those of us who have dealt with this issue are inhabitants of countries and cultures in which the national language is Spanish or Portuguese, with indigenous languages recognized as national languages on an equal footing like Paraguay, Bolivia and Mexico. Is there interest from English speakers and speakers of French, Dutch/Flemish and Creoles and pidgins of the region? The structured answers to these questions and approaches must be considered in the planning and development of the group's strategies.
