RES: GENERAL ASSEMBLY LACRALO 2012 - SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA
[[--Translated text (es -> en)--]] Subject: RES: GENERAL ASSEMBLY LACRALO 2012 - SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA From: sylvia@prontocl.com.br Exactly Fatima, serams expensive (as it should be taken into account extra cost of ALS members estn and process costs within ICANN normal and Fellow). The purpose of matching the general assemblies of the meetings ICANN is to give an opportunity for the ALS to know how the world works ICANN, exactly the same PURPOSE Fellowship program that ttbNL> know so well. On the other hand, according to the results of the survey respondents the ALS LACRALO about their relationship with their ccTLDs, we know that it is very low or nonexistent, and therefore not sde where the idea that ccTLDs are willing to give financial support to our Assembly General. But in this case the necessary resources may be greater than necessary General Assembly in Costa Rica. Maybe we can start working for the AG in conjunction with LACIGF this year (usually done in August and we will be facing a new ICANN fiscal year, and maybe we can have your financial support). It is a plan B that may be worth considering .... Thanks Jacquie. Fátima 01/07/2012 Jacqueline Morris <jam@jacquelinemorris.com>
I think it's committed, but it depends on what is considered commitment... there's been a lot of $$ input into ways for online activity, for translations of documents (more needed, but a BIG improvement from 5 years ago), the Fellowship programme and access to ICANN processes for a lot of people from the developing world. The GA is important to LACRALO, but it isn't contracted, nor is it a request from other RALOs as far as I know.
You know there is a negative perception with regard to travel support from many people outside ALAC - the idea of participating in ICANN, via working groups, mailing lists etc vs "getting a paid holiday". And with the Accountability and Transparency issues, it's important for ICANN to look at perception. (The Dakar hotel PR fiasco didn't do much to make the At Large look accountable and responsible)
Also, a GA at an ICANN meeting will have LACRALO ALSes in their own meeting, separate and distinct from the ICANN meeting, at least for the 2-3 days of the GA. So why does the GA have to coincide with the regional ICANN meeting? The LACIGF always has representatives of the ALSes, we could piggyback the GA onto that next year, or in 2013 and spend time and energy getting funding and organising it as a major regional end-user event!
It's as important for us to show commitment to ICANN and to IG policy development in the region as it is for us to see that ICANN is committed to us.

Yes, Jacquie, LACRALO is the largest RALO (38 members), BUT more than half of ALSs, are inactive ALSs.
Seem that we are expert in Outreach but not in participation, engagement and outcomes .
Do we know how many ALSs are attending to Costa Rica meeting without AG?
We are committed to LACRALO but, is ICANN committed to us??

Given that the deadline for ICANN Travel forms is MONDAY, I doubt that there will be all ALSes attending, and hence a LACRALO GA. But I think that it would be a wasted opportunity to cancel the Showcase, as it is a great opportunity to let the ICANN community know that LACRALO is the largest RALO (38 members) and has been instrumental in the creation and ongoing growth of ICANN's translation

LACRALO Dear companions:
New year, renewed energies, many achievements to conquer.
We are in January and the upcoming San Josde Meeting of Costa Rica.
I would like to know how we go with the preparations for the Assembly as expected General LACRALO.
We talked a lot about this, but so far we have no definicin-response from ICANN.
Someone may tell?
I still insist that there will make sense to make a LACRALO Showcase, without estn all ALS present as was the case of Cartagena, and is informacinrpida why we need so that the same may prepare the material as necessary.
Greetings to all,
Sylvia

IN that case, maybe we should put in our budget items for the 2012-203 budget, due TOMORROW. Jacqueline A. Morris Technology should be like oxygen: Ubiquitous, Necessary, Invisible and Free. (after Chris Lehmann )
