CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2022 ALAC, LACRALO LEADERS AND ALAC DELEGATES TO THE NOMCOM
Dear All, On behalf of Maureen Hilyard, Chair of the ALAC, we would like to announce that the LACRALO 2022 call for nominations is now open for positions to be filled as ALAC Members and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom. OPEN POSITIONS: The LACRALO positions that are open are noted below. Please take note of the sub-regions that candidates must be from according to the LACRALO Operating principles<https://community.icann.org/display/LACRALO/LACRALO+Organising+Documents?pre...> and the draft Rules of Procedures. * ALAC member –(SUBREGION D): MERCOSUR (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay) – TERM: AGM 2022-AGM 2024 * ALAC Delegate to the Nomcom – (SUBREGION A): ( Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Panama) - TERM: AGM 2022-AGM 2023 For the list of all available positions and the respective conditions of eligibility, please refer to the 2022 LACRALO Regional Selections Workspace<https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/2022+LACRALO+Regional+Selections>. Terms: * ALAC: Terms for the ALAC will run from the end of the 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to the end of the 2024 AGM. * ALAC Delegates to the Nomcom: Voting members of the Nomcom are appointed for a one year term, starting at the close of the 2022 AGM and ending at the close of the 2023 AGM and may be re-appointed for a further term of one year subject to the requirement under ICANN ByLaws. Each RALO may make one or more recommendations for the consideration of the ALAC. The appointment of NomCom delegates is carried out by the ALAC. The criteria for NomCom Delegates are shown at the end of this message. SCHEDULE: 2022 Selection Schedule for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom: * 18 April 2022 - Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.* (Except for NARALO that requires a call for nominations 30 days before the start of the elections.) * 18 April 2022 - 29 April 2022 - Nomination period (nominations accepted for 10 working days). * 6 May 2022 - Deadline for nomination acceptances * 9 May 2022 - 12 May 2022 - Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs. * 13 May - 20 May 2022 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline). * 2022 AGM [ICANN75] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2022 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 22 September 2022. LACRALO PROCESS FOR NOMINATIONS: According to LACRALO Operating Principles<https://community.icann.org/display/LACRALO/LACRALO+Organising+Documents?pre...>, LACRALO members who wish to be nominated to Leadership positions shall comply with the following requirements: 1. Regional rotation: Confirm that you are a member of an ALS from the country corresponding to the position to which you are applying. Only organizations that have been formally accredited to LACRALO (ALS) can participate in the election as nominators or nominees to hold positions, “observer<https://atlarge.icann.org/individual-members/lacralo>” members of LACRALO are excluded from being able to nominate, be nominated and to vote. 2. Complete the LACRALO Conflicts of Interest form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdCcYbqEoLCB2eokgTz86HHtze5lv9CeDRR...> 3. All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining Expression of Interest (word or PDF file) explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate for the position to At-Large staff<mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org>. All nominees must also complete or update their Statement of Interest (see: At-Large New SOIs Workspace<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__community.icann.org_dis...>). 4. Nominations, including self-nominations must be made directly to the LACRALO mailing list (lac-discuss-en@atlarge-lists.icann.org<mailto:lac-discuss-en@atlarge-lists.icann.org>) with the subject line: LACRALO NOMINATION 2022 , as well as post it to the 2022 LACRALO Elections Workspace and by sending a note to At-Large staff<mailto:staff@atlarge.icann.org>. CRITERIA FOR NOMCOM DELEGATES: The NomCom is responsible for selecting members of the ICANN Board, ALAC, ccNSO and GNSO. RALOs may recommend one or more candidates to the ALAC. The appointment if NomCom delegates is carried out by the ALAC. This is a very important function and all candidates should meet important criteria. * Familiarity with the ICANN groups to which the NomCom appoints (Board, ALAC, GNSO, ccNSO). * Ability to judge people (such as when interviewing and hiring). * Comfortable and preferably fluent with English (listening, reading, speaking). * Good on-line skills such as on Google & Social media. * Time Commitment - Must be willing to devote substantial time under tight deadlines (March-June). Will involve travel to up to 4 meetings. * Ability work in a group environment, standing up for what you believe in a discussion with other "strong" people, but at the same time, must be a good listener and be willing to change your mind if someone else has a good argument. Diplomacy is important.
