Personal Data Protection Act - Singapore
Singapore has just concluded public consultations on their Personal Data Protection Act 2012 whose purpose is defined as ' *use and disclosure of personal data by organisations in a manner that recognises both the right of individuals to protect their personal data and the need of organisations to collect, use or disclose personal data for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.*” Hmmm, that 'reasonable person' reference again. Of thematic interest to me: consent and how it is described, prescriptions, if any, for occasions when consent is withheld, responsibilities of the players in the stream and matters pertaining to international/extra-territorial processing. Here is a link to the consultation paper: http://app.mica.gov.sg/Data/0/Consultation%20Paper%20for%20PDP%20Bill.pdf The analysis of the response are yet to come. There was an earlier consultation for defining a consumer data protection regime. See the responses to that consultation here: http://app.mica.gov.sg/Data/0/Consultation%20Paper%20for%20PDP%20Bill.pdf - Carlton ============================== Carlton A Samuels Mobile: 876-818-1799 *Strategy, Planning, Governance, Assessment & Turnaround* =============================
