Latin/Cyrillic Variant Analysis Methodology
Notes from our meeting today 21 September 2017 Latin/Cyrillic Variant Analysis Methodology: * There are 84 code points in the Cyrillic LGR proposal. Fourteen (plus one) were identified by the Cyrillic Panel as having a variant in the Latin script. * The variant team will conduct a visual inspection of these 84 code points to determine whether there is a potential variant candidate within the Latin script. We will start with MSR-2 and will adjust when the Latin repertoire is finalized. * A Cyrillic code point will pass through two inspections by two different people. * The first inspection will result in three different outcomes: Latin code point [is variant/is not a variant/may or may not be a variant] of Cyrillic code point. * The second inspection will confirm the first result or challenge it (i.e. a challenge is when the results of the first and second inspection differ or either is undetermined). * At the end of the second inspection, all four members of the Variant group will analyze all challenges and resolve the contention. * First inspection assignments (due by Friday, September 29) * Line 1 – 43: Michael (he already did the work, but need to record his findings in the spreadsheet) * Line 44 – 57: Dennis * Line 58 – 71: Bill * Line 72 – 84: Meikal * Second inspection assignments (only after first inspection is completed and due by Wednesday, October 4) * Line 1 – 21: Dennis * Line 22 – 42: Bill * Line 43 – 63: Meikal * Line 64 – 84: Michael Spreadsheet can be accessed here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xqLGymTcqRt1RT3YpckZSqq-a-m9LkA2_m9O... . All four members of the Variant team have edit access, all others can view and/or comment. Our next meeting will be on Oct 5. If I missed anything please let me know. Best, Dennis
