in-script analysis homework
Meikal, et al Can I get your feedback on my homework? Just want to make sure I’m doing what I am supposed to do. Please review my working document at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GgawEKKwrvC8P0UAuB5DAka1P13s98HEvp2kxn0c... Also, I have a question regarding the Stacking cases. I remember we said let’s do all possible combinations… but If it is clear that the “stacking” is perfectly aligned on the first case, then we shouldn’t need to capture all possible combinations, right? See the two examples in my document. In the first iteration (with letter A) it is clear that the stacking of Circumflex and Tilde is perfect. This alignment is not dependent of the letter that follows. Thanks in advance for your input. Dennis

Dear Dennis & Colleagues, I saw your message, but didn’t get around to replying earlier. I checked your document and agree with the others that it is a good format. Regarding the Stacking cases - the short answer is I think yes. But to avoid misunderstandings (I’m not entirely sure what you refer to by 'on the first case‘) let me explain the way I see it: It is my understanding that the way the modifiers are stacked or placed over one another and the base characters is dependent on the way the glyph featuring those modifiers was designed in the font. Therefore I assume it should be independent of the following character and in my understanding we need the following character to demonstrate plausiblity, i.e. an e with a circumflex and a grave above followed by a simple a may not be confused for a sequence of an e with only a circumflex above followed by an a with a grave above if there is not a with a grave above in the repertoire. But if the first character - in the example the e with a circumflex and a grave above - is encoded constistently in the majority of fonts with both modifiers correctly positioned over one another and only over that base letter there is no point in my eyes in testing several sequences since it it will all yield the same result - the ‚Stacking‘ on the first character is correctly rendered and there can be no confusion. Does that answer your question? Best wishes, Meikal Am 8. Okt. 2018, 23:30 +0200 schrieb Tan Tanaka, Dennis via Latingp <latingp@icann.org>:

what is the deadline for our homework? Have we said anything about that? Since I'm quite busy at the moment, I don't want to put time there now, if I could also do this later. Michael, as far as I remember we didn't set a deadline. I'm just trying to get this done while I have available time. That being said, I would suggest we complete this analysis (and the remaining cross-script variant work) by end of this month. The goal would be to turn around the next iteration of the proposal by end of November. This is how I envision the next milestones: Oct 31 - Complete cross-script and in-script analysis Nov 30 - Finalize next iteration of LGR Proposal, including new code points, cross-script and in-script variants Dec 1 - Send next iteration of LGR Proposal to IP ----- December ------ people take time off, we may not get any feedback from IP until January 2019. Of course, this is one way to look at this. I think the panel needs to agree on a timeline. the timelines look fine for me. I can probably find some time during the Barcelona trip working on my tasks. So end of October is good. Regarding the time off in December, I will take time off in November instead. The last two weeks I'll be on holiday. I will be available in December.
