hi all,

I am submitting here my SOI for the role of co-chair for the Middle East Space and thanks again for the nomination and support.

To present myself, I have been an active participant in ICANN since 2008 and spent most of my time on the GNSO side. I am currently the chair of the Non-Commercial Stakeholder Group. I was in the GNSO council as vice chair and have been co-chair or chair of PDP working groups. In relation to our region, I was also the chair of the MEAC strategy working group which developed the previous regional strategy.

Regarding the vision for the space, I want to thank first the work and efforts done by all the previous co-chairs to keep the space running and active since that provides us the platform to work upon it and aim for more. I would like to get the space active the whole year, meaning during ICANN meetings and between. I would work with you all: members, ICANN staff and the co-chair on engaging our community, identify our priorities in particular on policy topics, and support other activities such as MEAC strategy for FY26-30.

However, that might require reviewing and amending the current charter mission and scope of there is consensus and interest within our community. Working on statements helped us to focus on specific topics on a regular basis, in addition to the session at ICANN meetings. We can envision how we can expand the space to work on other engagement channels and provide more opportunities for members to participate. Input from previous leadership will be helpful to guide us and share their experiences. Finally, I commit to dedicate time and attention to the ME space, conduct its activities as stated on the charter in a timely manner and work closely with the co-chair.

I will be happy to answer your questions and comments.

Best regards,

Rafik
